Techniques for multiband radio frequency (RF) signal communications using integrated multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) multiband bandpass filter bank based on concentric dielectric ring resonators are described. The integrated MIMO multiband bandpass filter bank includes a plurality of transmission line structures for transmitting and receiving radio frequency (RF) signals, and a plurality of ring resonators with different sizes and different resonant frequencies electromagnetically coupled to the plurality of transmission line structures, wherein each ring resonator of the plurality of concentric ring resonators is configured as a single-band bandpass filter to allow a bandpass signal to pass through. By the use of integrated MIMO multiband bandpass filter bank, multiple desired bandpass signals corresponding to the multiple resonant frequencies of the multiple dielectric ring resonators can operate to transmit and receive in the processing of multiband RF signals while having out-of-band spurious emission and interference rejection.

Disclosed are apparatus and methods of adaptive frequency channel allocation adjustment to mitigate the in-device interference of simultaneous coexistence operation of multiple radio frequency operation. At least one of channel conflict tables is pre-defined in the device memory. One of the multiple radio frequency operation is prioritized, and the mobile device would request the cellular base transceiver station or the host access point to allocate a non-conflicted frequency channel with respect to the prioritized radio frequency channel. Once the prioritized communication channel changes due to handover or any other reason, the device would check the allocated channels against the pre-defined conflict channel tables and request the access point or the base station to adjust the secondary frequency channel if there exists the conflict channel.

Interference mitigation during simultaneous operation of multiple radios in a wireless device

A multiband antenna includes a plurality of radiation elements, operative within different frequency bands. The multiband microline antenna includes a base substrate that has a signal feeding trace and a partial ground plane, and two or more additional substrates that have multiple microline radiation elements electromagnetically coupled to the signal feeding trace. Each microline radiation element has a width not greater than 0.1 millimeter, and varies in length and resonant frequency. Various disclosed embodiments include a multiband microline folded monopole antenna, a multiband microline loop antenna, a multiband microline inverted-F antenna and a multiband microline &#x3c0;-shaped antenna.

Multiband microline antenna

Multi-band radio frequency communication is performed using an integrated multi-band bandpass filter implemented based on ring resonators, such as concentric dielectric ring resonators. By constructing the multi-band bandpass filter using concentric ring configurations, the print circuit board (PCB) real estate requirement of multiple filters operating at multiple frequency bands is significantly reduced. Various configurations of the multi-band bandpass filter based on the concentric ring resonators provide flexibility in the layout design and manufacturing of multi-band radios for mobile devices, such as compact smartphones. These configurations of the concentric ring resonators can include but are not limited: a slot-coupling configuration, a direct-coupling configuration, and an embedded direct-coupling configuration.

Integrated multi-band bandpass filters based on dielectric resonators for mobile and other communication devices and applications

Various embodiments of an integrated multiband bandpass apparatus based on concentric dielectric ring resonators includes one or more radio frequency (RF) input transmission lines for receiving multi-band RF signals, multiple RF output transmission lines for receiving and transmitting multiple single-band RF signals, and a set of dielectric ring resonators coupled in between. The disclosed integrated multi-band bandpass apparatus based on dielectric ring resonators can support at least two operation modes, i.e., a multi-band bandpass filtering mode when used in one direction and a multi-band bandpass multiplexing mode when used in an opposite direction. When operating in the multi-band bandpass filtering mode, the multiple dielectric ring resonators can be used to simultaneously filter multi-band RF signals into multiple single-band bandpass signals. When operating in the multi-band bandpass multiplexing mode, the dielectric ring resonators can be used to multiplex multiple single-band bandpass signals into a multi-band RF signal.
