A medium writing apparatus obtains information to be written onto a recording medium, converts the information into a suitable writable format, and then writes the converted information onto the recording medium. An ID obtaining section obtains a medium ID from the recording medium, or through an input by the user. The medium ID and information indicating the place of the written information are sent to a server, and then stored as index information correlating them with each other. When the information written onto the recording medium is to be used at a later timing, the medium ID is identified, and the index information is obtained from the server. Therefore, the original information can be obtained so as to be easily reprocessed or reused.

The present invention provides an image-forming device that can record an image onto a rewritable image recording medium. Prior to recording a predetermined image, the medium is set and a test image for measuring the density is recorded thereon. When the density is determined to be within an allowable range, the predetermined image is recorded under certain image recording conditions and then discharged to a discharging tray. However, should the density be outside the allowable range, the conditions are changed and another test image is recorded to the medium. If after repeated density measurements the density is not within an allowable range, the device determines that the medium is defective and discharges it to an error tray.

A display and record medium includes a digital information record section, which is implemented as an IC memory and can record record information in noncontact, and an information display section implemented as a liquid crystal display medium of light write type into which display information can be written. A digital information rewrite section of an information writer communicates with the digital information record section of the display and record medium by electromagnetic waves to rewrite record information as required. A display information rewrite section of the information writer irradiates an optical pattern to the information display section of the display and record medium to rewrite display information. It is possible to rewrite both digital information and display information concurrently in noncontact.

This invention provides a storage medium, method of writing images to a storage medium, method of forming a storage medium and a storage medium formed using the method of forming a storage medium. The storage medium provides a display which has memory capability without power, allows images to be updated quickly by external equipment, and is capable of a full-color display. The storage medium includes three display layers having cholesteric liquid crystals which selectively reflect blue, green, and red, respectively, and are different from each other in texture change threshold voltage. The display layers are stacked between substrates and a light absorption layer is provided. An image writing apparatus is formed separately from the storage medium and provides write electrodes sandwiching the storage medium. A write signal is applied between the electrodes with a voltage, wherein the voltage is selected from seven levels of voltage which are produced based on the respective texture change threshold voltages of the cholesteric liquid crystal display layers.

An image forming sheet is constituted by a sheet-shaped image forming layer for forming thereon a visible image by being applied by any one of an electric field and a magnetic field, and a pair of flexible films for supporting the image forming layer from both surface sides thereof without having an electrode, one of an electric resistance and a magnetic resistance of one flexible file is smaller than that of the other flexible film. As a result, the image formed on this image forming sheet can be confirmed without using a transparent electrode.
