A computer system is provided which includes a host computer having a volume, a storage apparatus including a storage media, the storage apparatus providing a RAID group configured by the storage media, a logical volume configured by the RAID group, a pool configured by the logical volume, and a virtual volume allocated from the pool and corresponding to the volume of the host computer. The computer system also includes a management server to store performance information regarding the logical volume and/or RAID group and mapping information regarding a relationship among components of the computer system in view of logical and physical connections. The management server determines whether a correspondence relationship exists among the components by referring to the performance information, and outputs a relationship among the components based on the determination of the correspondence relationship and the mapping information.

In a computer system composed of a computer in which a plurality of VMs (Virtual Machines) are operated and a storage system, when a patch of an OS in the VM is applied, update data accompanying the application of the patch is stored in each VM image, causing increase of load of the storage system accompanying the concentration of read requests and the elongation of the patch applying process time. Therefore, the present invention provides a high-speed patch applying method to the VMs. When a patch applying request from a user using the VM is received and a patch is applied to the first VM, the patch is applied after creating a replication of the original GI (Golden Image) by which a new GI is created, and the new GI is used when the patch is applied to the second and subsequent VMs. During a patch applying process of the VM, a VM image is created from a new GI, and a path information related to the VM image is changed to thereby execute the patch applying process.

When creating a storage pool with external volumes, it is not possible to put together the volumes that have the same level of reliability if consideration is only given to the physical attributes of such volumes. Further, the reliability demanded between a host computer and a storage apparatus does not necessarily match the reliability between storage apparatuses. When creating a storage pool in the data processing system of this invention, not only is consideration given to the characteristics of the physical disks themselves, consideration is also given to the connection status of the backend network between a storage apparatus and a switch loaded with external storage function, and an external storage apparatus. What is more, volumes are allocated to a host machine after said system considers both the redundancy of a backend network of between storage apparatuses and that of a network path between the host machine and storage apparatus.
