A vehicle includes an engine having a particulate matter removal filter to remove particulate matter, in an exhaust system, and a control device to control the engine such that the vehicle travels in a mode selected from a plurality of modes including a first mode in which both fuel efficiency and ride quality are achieved and a second mode in which the engine is operated at a load higher than a predetermined load. When an accumulation quantity of the particulate matter in the particulate matter removal filter is equal to or more than a threshold, the control device notifies a driver that traveling in the second mode is recommended. When the driver selects the second mode in response to the notification, it is possible to restrain an uncomfortable feeling to be given to the driver, even if the engine is operated at a high load for regenerating the filter.

A hybrid vehicle includes: an engine configured to output power for traveling; a motor configured to output power for traveling; a switch configured to set a fuel economy priority mode, in which priority is given to fuel economy, and to cancel the fuel economy priority mode; and a controller configured (a) to operate the engine and the motor based on the switch setting; (b) to determine the presence/absence of degradation of fuel supplied to the engine; and (c) to prohibit setting of the fuel economy priority mode by the switch subsequently when determination is made that the fuel has degraded when the hybrid vehicle travels using power of the motor in a state in which the drive of the engine is stopped.

Hybrid vehicle and control method therefor

When an output of a braking force to a driving shaft is needed, and a needed braking force can be output by regenerative drive of the second motor, the engine self-sustainably operates, the regenerative drive of the second motor is performed to cause the second motor to output the needed braking force to the driving shaft. When the needed braking force cannot be output by the regenerative drive of the second motor, the needed braking force is output to the driving shaft by the regenerative drive of the second motor and motoring of the engine that performs fuel cut using the first motor. When a filter regeneration condition is established, an allowable input electric power is set to be lower than that of when the filter regeneration condition is not established.

Hybrid vehicle

An ECU is mounted on a vehicle including an engine and a motor that can generate cranking torque applied to a rotation shaft of the engine. Where a request for starting the engine is not issued, the ECU determines whether the engine is during coasting or not. The ECU changes cranking target torque in accordance with engine rotation speed. In this way, engine rotation speed during cranking can be reduced to and remain in the optimum region where misfire and resonance can be avoided.

Vehicle

First output power is set in accordance with operation by a driver. In addition, second output power greater than the first output power is set. A hybrid vehicle is controlled so that an engine is driven in accordance with the second output power. The hybrid vehicle is controlled so that the engine is stopped when the first output power is equal to or smaller than an engine stop threshold value.
