Provided are a storage system, a storage controller and a data compression method that will not deteriorate the performance of a storage system by adjusting the compression processing time required for compressing data. This storage controller includes a statistical information management unit for managing a throughput value decided based on statistical information of previously compressed file data as a system performance value, a mode setting unit for setting a compression mode of either a system performance priority mode that terminates compression of the file data and gives priority to system performance or a compression priority mode that gives priority to compression of the file data based on a comparison between a system performance target value preset as a target value and the system performance value, and a compression controller for compressing the file data based on the compression mode set with the mode setting unit.

Storage system, storage controller and data compression method

It is an object to prevent a processing speed of the storage system provided with a function for detecting a write completion of data from being reduced. A controller module is provided with at least one processor module, at least one storage resource, and at least one transfer control module connected to the processor module and the storage resource. The transfer control module is provided with a receiver and a transmitter. The receiver receives a write packet from the processor module, includes a specific code in the write packet, and then transmits the write packet. In the case in which the transmitter receives a write packet and the received write packet includes the specific code, the transmitter writes targeted data in the write packet to the storage resource to be written, generates a response packet that is a response indicating a completion of a write, and transmits the generated response packet.

A controller performs data communication with a host system based on fiber channel protocol and controls data input/output to or from a SATA disk drive. The controller includes an FC/SATA converter powered by a main power supply, and a resource management processor powered by a standby power supply. The resource management processor controls the power supply from the main power supply to the FC/SATA converter.
