There is provided a liquid crystal display apparatus having sufficiently small black brightness in an oblique direction. A liquid crystal display apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: a liquid crystal cell including a viewer-side substrate, a back surface-side substrate, and a homogeneously aligned liquid crystal layer sandwiched therebetween; a first polarizer arranged on a viewer side of the liquid crystal cell; a second polarizer arranged on a back surface side of the liquid crystal cell; a first optical compensation layer arranged between the liquid crystal cell and the first polarizer; and a second optical compensation layer arranged between the liquid crystal cell and the second polarizer. The viewer-side substrate and the back surface-side substrate each have a thickness direction retardation Rth(550) of from &#x2212;10 nm to 100 nm, and a product A&#xd7;E is 300 or less.

A receiving device performs reception in a service period of a broadcast signal and switches to a power saving mode in a non-service period. The service period is composed of a first period during which an application data table of an MPE-FEC frame is transmitted and a second period, following the first period, during which an RS data table of the MPE-FEC frame is transmitted. An error correction unitperforms one of error correction that uses the whole RS data table according to MPE-FEC, and erasure correction that uses a same number of parity bytes as bytes having bit errors. The present invention aims to provide a reception apparatus that receives and demodulates a signal transmitted by using time-division multiplexing, with reduced power consumption. The OFDM signal receiving apparatus includes a plurality of receiving systems, and a diversity processing unit connected to the receiving systems and fed with sequences of data on sub-carriers demodulated by the respective receiving systems. At least one of the receiving systems includes an FFT circuit for Fast Fourier transforming, in parallel, only a sequence of data on 2sub-carriers contained in the OFDM signal received with a corresponding antenna, where X&#x3e;Z. The diversity processing unit performs a diversity process on sequences of data on sub-carriers, out of all the Y sub-carries, redundantly demodulated.

Integrating AFC/APC function with waveform equalization function for and reducing the circuit size of a signal wave-form equalizer apparatus. A waveform equalization section is divided into an FFE block as an anterior stage and a DFE block as a posterior stage. An AFC/APC block is provided therebetween. In the AFC/APC block, an AFC/APC coefficient update section updates a coefficient used for removing frequency and phase errors in accordance with an LMS algorithm, and a tap multiplies a modulated signal by the updated coefficient. Conductivity of the transport guide is selected by the material of which it is made, specified herein to have superficial resistivity in the range of ten thousand to one hundred million megohms. Charge applied to a printing sheet to electrostatically attract the magnetic toner during the xerographic printing is thus drained by the transport guide gradually enough not to disturb the adhesion of the toner to the sheet, yet rapidly enough to prevent the sheet from being curled upward by electrostatic attraction toward a residual toner container just over the downstream end of the guide, in the optimally compacted arrangement of the various components of the sheet processing and xerographic printing apparatus into a facsimile machine or the like.

Sheet transportation apparatus operating in an image forming system for xerographic printing employing magnetic toner. The inventive features of the sheet processing apparatus are directed toward smooth transportation and discharge of printing sheets sent through a system image printing unit, across a sheet transport guide, and through an image fixing and sheet transporting unit which finally discharges the printing sheets. The sheet transport guide dips downward and meets a sheet admission guide, having superficial resistivity lower than that of the sheet transport guide to reduce electrical repulsion of the leading edge of a transported sheet. The sheet admission guide guides each sheet into a nipping position of a heating/pressure roller pair as fixing rollers in the image fixing unit. The heating roller heater is designed to promote even heat emission axially along the cylindrical surface of the heating roller, counteracting unidirectional flow of cooling air in the system, ensuring smoothness in the image fixing, sheet-nipping transport of the printing sheet. Further, a gear train transmits power simultaneously to the fixing rollers, and to a discharge roller pair. A middle gear of the train is disengagable by a mechanism releasing the pressure roller from the heating roller, in turn releasing drive power engagement of the discharge rollers, so that a sheet-jam condition in the system is easily remedied.

A forward error correcting transmitter and receiver for preventing the erroneous detection of synchronization is provided in a system in which synchronization of an interleaver circuit and a deinterleaver circuit, to be inserted between a convolutional encoder and a Viterbi decoder, is obtained from a synchronization detecting circuit of the Viterbi decoder. A LFSR (Linear Feedback Shift Register) is used as a row-direction address counter during writing and an up/down counter is used as a column-direction address counter during reading, during the interleaver circuit. In the deinterleaver circuit, an up/down counter is used as the column-direction address counter during writing, and an LFSR is used as the row-direction address counter during reading.
