A light emitting device having excellent light emission efficiency contains a cathode, a first organic layer containing a compound having a cross-linkable group and a phosphorescent transition metal complex, a second organic layer containing a crosslinked body of the same compound as the compound having a cross-linkable group, and an anode in this order. The ratio of the compound having a cross-linkable group contained in the first organic layer is 2 to 10% by mass with respect to the total mass of the first organic layer. The compound having a cross-linkable group may be a compound having at least one cross-linkable group selected from cross-linkable groups represented by the formula (XL-1) to the formula (XL-19).

Light emitting device

A light emitting device having excellent external quantum efficiency contains an anode, a cathode, and two organic layers disposed therebetween. One layer contains a phosphorescent transition metal complex and a low molecular weight compound containing no transition metal, and the second layer contains a crosslinked body of a polymer compound (having an energy level of the lowest triplet excited state of 2.30 eV or more) containing a constitutional unit having a crosslinking group. A polymer compound which is useful for producing a light emitting device having excellent luminance life is described. The polymer compound contains a constitutional unit having a residue of a compound represented by the formula (1) and a constitutional unit having no residue of a compound represented by the formula (1): In formula (1), Ring A, Ring B and Ring C represent an aromatic hydrocarbon ring, X represents a boron atom, Y, Yand Yrepresent N-Ry, a sulfur atom or a selenium atom, Ry represents a hydrogen atom, an aryl group, a monovalent heterocyclic group or an alkyl group, and n3 is 0 or 1.
