An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit to perform an image forming process of forming a plurality of test charts having different adhesion amounts of an image forming material on a recording medium. The image forming process includes a transfer process of transferring the image forming material to image forming positions on the recording medium. The image forming apparatus further includes an image reading unit, circuitry, and a storage unit. The image reading unit reads each of the plurality of test charts. The circuitry calculates adjustment values for adjusting images formed at the image forming positions on a first side and a second side of the recording medium depending on adhesion amounts of the image forming material on the first side and the second side based on a reading result of the plurality of test charts by the image reading unit. The storage unit stores the adjustment values.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming device, an image position detector, and an image density detector. The image forming device forms an image on a surface of a recording medium. The image position detector detects a position of the image. The image density detector detects a density of the image. The image forming device forms a position detection image on a surface of a first recording medium. The image position detector detects a position of the position detection image on the surface of the first recording medium. The image forming device forms a density detection image on a second recording medium. The image density detector detects a density of the density detection image on the surface of the second recording medium.

A sheet conveying device, which is included in an image forming apparatus and a post processing device, includes a position corrector and either one of a rolling body and a contact resistance reducer. The position corrector is configured to convey a sheet and correct a position of the sheet. The rolling body is disposed at least one of an upstream side and a downstream side of a sheet conveyance passage from the position corrector in a sheet conveying direction and is configured to roll in at least a direction intersecting the sheet conveying direction. The contact resistance reducer is configured to reduce contact resistance generated due to contact of the sheet to a neighboring part when the position of the sheet is corrected by the position corrector.

A sheet conveying device, which is included in an image forming apparatus and a post processing device, includes a position detector configured to detect a position of a sheet, a sheet conveying body, a fixed body, a movable body configured to move, relative to the fixing body, between a first position and a second position different from the first position, and an index mounted on the fixed body. The sheet conveying device further includes a data storing device, a conveyance positional deviation calculator configured to calculate a positional deviation amount of the sheet to the reference sheet conveyance position, a detected positional deviation calculator configured to calculate a positional deviation amount of the position detector to the index based on a result of the position detector, and a reference position detector configured to correct the reference sheet conveyance position based on a result of the detected positional deviation calculator.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming device configured to form a first image on a first side of a recording medium and a second image on a second side of the recording medium, a position detector configured to detect respective positions of the first and second images, and a controller configured to perform, based on detection results obtained by the position detector, at least one of an image position correction by matching the first and second images and a magnification error correction by calculating and correcting a magnification error of one of the first and second images relative to the other. A program product used in the image forming apparatus includes a method of forming the first image and the second image, detecting the respective positions of the first and second images, and matching a position or a size of the first and second images.
