A sheet processing apparatus performs folding processing so that one end of a sheet exists inside the folded sheet. The sheet processing apparatus includes a transport path to guide a transported sheet, a rotating body pair capable of transporting the sheet in a first direction to perform folding processing, and in a second direction for switching back the sheet subjected to the folding processing, a folding blade that pushes the sheet to a nip portion of the rotating body pair, a press member that presses the sheet folded by the rotating body pair in the second direction, and a shift section that shifts the press member for pressing the sheet. In switching back the sheet, a control section controls transport of the sheet so that the one end of the sheet is halted within a region between the press member and a guide face of the transport path.

A sheet processing apparatus includes alignment plates, which are provided outside a main body housing of a sheet processing apparatus, shift in an alignment direction orthogonal to a transport direction of a sheet loaded on a load tray to load sheets discharged from a discharge opening, and align opposite sides of the sheet, and a sheet support surface provided in a different position adjacent to a processing tray in the alignment direction to support sheets inserted from a manual feed opening provided outside the main body housing. A binding apparatus shifts to the processing tray or the sheet support surface, and binds sheets placed on the processing tray or the sheet support surface. A sheet processing apparatus for processing a sheet includes a setting portion to which a sheet bundle is set from an outside of the apparatus, a conveying route in which a sheet is conveyed, a stack portion on which sheets conveyed from the conveying route are stacked, the stack portion being arranged at a different position of the setting portion, a binding unit which binds a sheet bundle set in the setting portion and a sheet bundle stacked in the stack portion, and a punching portion which forms a punch hole on a sheet, which is conveyed in the conveying route. In order to enable a press-bound sheet bunch to be easily peeled away from press teeth, the present invention is to provide a sheet bunch processing apparatus with a needleless binding apparatus which includes a pair of press tooth members where a plurality of press teeth extending in a ridge-line direction is formed parallel, presses a part of a sheet bunch between the pair of press tooth members, and thereby performs press binding processing, and with a peeling mechanism which applies a force in a direction substantially parallel with the ridge-line direction of the press teeth to the sheet bunch, and thereby peels the sheet bunch subjected to the press binding processing away from the press teeth of the press tooth members.
