An optical module includes a polarizing plate and a light emitter disposed in a position facing the polarizing plate. The polarizing plate includes a polarizer and a protective film joined to the polarizer. The protective film has a light control function that changes the traveling direction of light. The light emitter is disposed in a position directly facing the protective film of the polarizing plate.

Optical module and display device

An optical sheet is incorporated in a direct type surface light source device including a light source and is configured to allow light emitted from the light source to exit after changing a travel direction of the light. The optical sheet has a light exiting side lens part including unit lenses juxtaposed to one another and each unit lens is convex toward a light exiting side. A light scattering layer, configured to scatter the light, is provided to each unit lens. The light scattering layer extends along a light exiting side surface of each convex unit lens and constitutes the light exiting side surface of the unit lens. A thickness of the light scattering layer around an apex portion of each unit lens is greater than the thickness of the light scattering layer around each end portion of the unit lens.

Optical sheet, surface light source device, and transmission display device

The invention is concerned with a volume hologram medium obtained by multiple recording of holograms, which is improved in terms of just only security for forgery prevention but also aesthetics. A volume hologram medium' comprises a reflection hologram in which a stereoscopic image of a three-dimensional object and an image of a plane pattern of a mask plate are recorded by interference of the same reference light beams having the same angle of incidence and the same wavelength with object light beams having mutually different angles of incidence. The stereoscopic image of the three-dimensional object is reconstructed in the form of diffracted lightin a singlecolor and in angle relations close to recording conditions, and the image of a plane pattern of the mask plate is reconstructed as diffracted lightat various angles of incidence of white illumination lightand in different colors depending on those angles of incidence. Thus, more improved aesthetics are achievable, and more enhanced security is ensured by determination of whether or not the volume hologram medium has such aesthetic properties.

Volume hologram medium

There is provided a protective film to be bonded to a polarizer to form a lower polarizing plate for a liquid crystal display panel. The protective film for a lower polarizing plate includes a matrix of a resin material and a diffusing component dispersed in the matrix. At least one-side surface, which is to face the polarizer, of the protective film is flat.

An optical deflecting sheet for a transmission type screen that emits imaging light projected from an incident side to an emergent side. The optical deflecting sheet includes a highly rigid substrate layer with a light-transmissibility and a high rigidity, and a plurality of layers laminated on the substrate layer. The plurality of layers includes at least a pair of anti-scattering layers disposed on opposite sides of the substrate layer for preventing scattering of the substrate layer. At least one layer of the two or more layers includes an optical deflecting element that deflects imaging light by refracting or reflecting the imaging light. The optical deflecting element is a prism part formed by arranging a plurality of unit prisms each having an incident surface on which light is incident and a total reflecting surface for reflecting at least a part of light incident on the incident surface.

Optical diffusing sheet, optical deflecting sheet, and transmission type screen

An optical diffusing sheet is provided, which prevents deterioration in image quality which might result from warping of the sheets due to environmental changes, and is capable of, even if a substrate is broken by an accident, preventing scattering of pieces of the broken substrate. An optical diffusing sheet is used in a transmission type screen that emits imaging light projected from an incident side to an emergent side. The optical diffusing sheet includes a highly rigid substrate layer with a light-transmissibility and a high rigidity, and a plurality of layers laminated on the highly rigid substrate layer. The plurality of layers includes at least a pair of anti-scattering layers disposed on opposite sides of the highly rigid substrate layer for preventing scattering of the highly rigid substrate layer. At least one layer of the two or more layers includes an optical diffusing element that diffuses imaging light.

An optical member that will be incorporated in a surface light source unit and that is scarcely deformed while it is used as a component of the surface light source unit. The optical member comprises optical sheets layered on each other. The optical sheets at least includes: an outermost optical sheet on the light-entrance side, which is situated outermost on the light-entrance side; and a high-rigidity optical sheet situated on the light-exit side of the outermost optical sheet on the light-entrance side, a rigidity of the high-rigidity optical sheet being higher than a rigidity of the outermost optical sheet on the light-entrance side.

A surface light source device and a transmission display device are provided. A surface light source device includes a light source portion, a light controlling sheet located on the output light side of the light source portion, and a light diffusing sheet located on the output light side of the light controlling sheet and including micro-convex structures. The light diffusing sheet includes a transparent base film, and a light diffusing layer coated on a surface of the transparent base film. Micro-beads incorporated in the light diffusion sheet exhibit a lens effect and provide a light condensing effect and a light diffusing effect. As such, the output light properties of the surface light source device can be adjusted to be smoother, thereby providing higher front luminance and avoiding occurrence of moir&#xe9;.

A light controlling sheet is provided in a surface light source device including a light source portion. The light controlling sheet includes an outgoing light side lens portion having multiple unit lenses arranged to project toward the outgoing light side, and transparent portions and reflecting portions provided on the incident light side. The transparent portions and the reflecting portions are arranged alternately, and the transparent portions comprise 40% to 60% of the total area of the light controlling sheet when viewed form a direction orthogonal to the sheet surface on the incident light side.

The present invention is a light-controlling sheet for making light emitted from light sources uniform and/or converging the light. The light-controlling sheet includes a lens part having a large number of rod-like unit lenses arranged in parallel, with a lens surface of each unit lens facing to the light-exiting side.
