A method and apparatus is disclosed herein for estimating travel behavior in a mobile network. In one embodiment, the method comprises receiving event data indicative of user equipment location, pre-processing received event data to produce pre-processed data, performing straight line interpolation on pre-processed data of one or more individuals in the population to estimate intermediate positions of a trajectory of each of the one or more individuals from a first position to a second position, and counting a number of individuals in population at a given time and at a given area.

Methods and apparatuses are disclosed herein for population tracking, counting and/or movement estimation. In one embodiment, the method comprises receiving mobile phone operational data indicative of user equipment location, where the event data includes location area update messages and periodic registration messages; and performing travel estimation based on the mobile phone operation data, including performing interpolation on data associated with one or more individuals in a population to estimate intermediate positions of a trajectory of each of the one or more individuals for a specified time period based on a shortest path mesh sequence estimation algorithm.

Apparatuses and methods are disclosed herein for implementing dormant mode with paging in a WLAN. Power savings in the computing device and reduction in traffic across the network are achieved by requiring a computing device to inform the WLAN of its location only when it crosses a paging area boundary or is to receive IP traffic. Dormant mode with paging is implemented in a protocol that supports dormant functionality and paging functionality but does not itself provide methods or standards for implementing such functionality, such as the IEEE 802.11. The methods and apparatuses disclosed herein provide the methods needed to implement dormant mode with paging in such a protocol. Generally, the methods and apparatuses for implementing dormant mode with paging basically include (1) establishing paging areas; (2) communicating access group information to a computing device; and (3) locating a computing device.

Method and apparatus for dormant mode support with paging

In a telecommunication system, paging areas may be automatically reconfigured as required. Paging areas can be adaptively reconfigured in accordance with changes in movement traffic of mobile hosts. The system and method work under a constraint that only a limited number of area IDs are permitted for each paging unit area. Also, the system and method work over heterogeneous access networks. Thus, according to the presently disclosed embodiments, paging areas reconfigure themselves according to changes in movement traffic of mobile hosts.

Method and associated apparatus for distributed dynamic paging area clustering under heterogeneous access networks

A reception notification control method is provided in which an information server that stores information addressed to reception terminals and performs reception notification, via a network apparatus, on each of the reception terminals to which the information stored in the information server is addressed. After receiving, via the network apparatus, a predetermined connection request from a reception terminal to which stored information is addressed, the information server performs the reception notification on the reception terminal.

A network system includes a network edge point configured to provide a terminal with access to a network. The network edge point includes a security policy associated with the terminal, and controls communications between the network and the terminal according to the security policy. The security policy may include a personal filter downloaded from the terminal, a service filter downloaded from a service policy server, and/or a domain filter downloaded from a domain policy server. The terminal may access the network through a second network edge point. The second network edge point may download one or more of the filters from the first network edge point, and control communications between the network and the terminal according to the security policy.

A geographically adjacent access router discovery system discovers geographically adjacent access routers through a distributed process in which mobile node(s) associated with a current access router may receive beacon signals from geographically adjacent access points. Network layer addresses of geographically adjacent access routers may be mapped to corresponding link layer IDs and cached by the system. The cache may be used to identify a network layer address from the link layer ID received in a beacon signal.

The present invention relates to a reception notification control method in which an information server that stores information addressed to reception terminals and performs reception notification, via a network apparatus, on each of the reception terminals to which the information stored in the information server is addressed. After receiving, via the network apparatus, a predetermined connection request from a reception terminal to which stored information is addressed, the information server performs the reception notification on the reception terminal.

A communications protocol in a system such as an IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN multi-hop system providing transmission scheduling information is disclosed. The transmission scheduling is formatted within a CF&#x2212;Poll+Data+SIPS data frame transmitted by the point coordinator (PC) which may be any one of the access point (AP) nodes transmitting in turn as dictated by the scheduling parameters within the scheduling information parameter set (SIPS). The SIPS comprises an offset field, the time left for the presently functioning PC; a delay field, where an AP delays functioning as a PC; and the interval field, the time allowed for an AP to function as a PC. The subsequent scheduling of assigned transmission slots by providing boundaries for the transmission frames through SIPS eliminates collisions resulting from multiple units transmitting simultaneously, thereby supporting interactive media and voice communications on WLAN multi-hop systems.
