A multi-band communication system includes a plurality of transmit channels, where each transmit channel transmits data streams through a single sub-band, and a plurality of receive channels, where each receive channel receives data streams of a single sub-band. According to one embodiment of the invention, each transmit channel and its respective receive channel are configured with a different set of channel codes to encode and decode the data. The set of channel codes is determined by an adaptive modulation coding controller based on a condition of the link between a transmit channel and a receive channel.

This invention discloses a method and apparatus for managing lighting systems is disclosed. The method comprises performing a training phase for a plurality of settings wherein the training is represented by statistical parameters associated with a statistical model and then performing a monitoring phase to monitor the lighting system, determining whether characteristics of the monitored lighting system correspond to the model obtained during the training phase and determining an error exists when the monitored lighting system is not within tolerance values of the statistical parameters.

When the second order cyclostationary property of the signal is used, the received signal is delayed by a fixed delay (symbol time), the received signal is multiplied with the delayed version, and a tone (single frequency) in the output is detected.

The system, apparatus and method of the present invention provides a single carrier block transmission with guard interval as a means of communications over multi-path channels that enables frequency domain equalization, and therefore, has many of the advantages of OFDM, but does not have some of the drawbacks such as high PAPR and the need for high resolution ADCs. While the use of guard intervals in single carrier communications enables low complexity detection of the signal, it reduces bandwidth efficiency. The present invention improves the bandwidth efficiency by adjusting the length of the guard interval adaptively. Also, by allowing both time-domain and frequency domain equalizations, besides improving bandwidth efficiency, the inventions allows for great flexibility in receiver design.

An electric light and external light control system for a space with a dual-mode light sensor is proposed. The dual-mode light sensor () measures and computes the amount of external light and electrical light incident on its sensing surface. The individual measured light components (total light, electric light and external light) are transmitted to the window treatment controller () and the electric light controller (). The controllers () use this information to optimally control the lighting condition to meet user requirements and reduce energy consumption. Both controllers () operate concurrently and independently, but are linked via the dual-mode sensor ().

The present invention is a system, apparatus, and method for current MB-OFDM systems to design a time-domain sync sequence regarding DAA that (1) minimizes change to the current sync sequence, and (2) maintains the robustness of synchronization. Two tone-notching embodiments are provided for sync sequence design in the preamble when OFDM systems require detect-and-avoid (DAA) ability. The receiver needn't be aware of the change of sync sequence at the transmitter and can still use the original sync sequence. The design can be used in both DAA and non-DAA transmission modes.
