The present disclosure relates to a catalyst composition for the oligomerization of ethylene comprising a zirconium-containing catalyst and an organoaluminum-containing co-catalyst. The disclosure also relates to a process for oligomerization of ethylene in the presence of the catalyst composition according to the disclosure. The disclosed process results in C-Clinear alpha olefins having improved linearity.

Catalyst composition and process for preparing linear alpha olefins

A method for preparing a homogenous catalyst for the production of linear alpha olefins includes: preparing a first pre-catalyst solution comprising a modifier and an organoaluminum compound in a first solvent wherein the first pre-catalyst solution is reacted and stored in a first vessel for a period of time of 1 hour to 90 days; preparing a second pre-catalyst solution comprising a second solvent, a ligand, and a chromium containing compound, wherein the second pre-catalyst solution is stored in a second vessel for a period of time of 1 hour to 90 days; and after a period of time, adding the first pre-catalyst solution to a catalyst pre-formation unit; after the same period of time, adding the second pre-catalyst solution to the catalyst pre-formation unit; forming a homogenous catalyst by mixing the first pre-catalyst solution and the second pre-catalyst solution; adding the homogeneous catalyst to a reaction vessel, wherein the reaction vessel comprises an alpha olefin; and forming the linear alpha olefin by mixing the homogeneous catalyst and the homogenous catalyst.

Method for preparation of homogenous catalyst for selective 1-hexene production

A method for preparing a homogenous catalyst for use in preparing a linear alpha olefin includes: preparing a first pre-catalyst solution by mixing a chromium source and a ligand in a first solvent, wherein the first pre-catalyst solution is stored in a first vessel; preparing a second pre-catalyst solution by mixing an organoaluminum compound and a modifier in a second solvent, wherein the second pre-catalyst solution is stored in a second vessel; and simultaneously feeding the first pre-catalyst solution and the second pre-catalyst solution directly into a reaction vessel, wherein the reaction vessel includes a third solvent.

Method for preparation of a catalyst solution for selective 1-hexene production

A method of separating linear alpha olefins, comprising: passing a feed stream comprising linear alpha olefins through a first column; distributing a C4&#x2212; fraction to a top portion of the first column; withdrawing a C6+ fraction from a bottom portion of the first column and passing the C6+ fraction through a second column; distributing a C12+ fraction to a bottom portion of the second column; withdrawing a C10&#x2212; fraction from a top portion of the second column and passing the C10&#x2212; fraction through a third column, wherein the C10&#x2212; fraction is substantially free of polymer; and distributing a C6 fraction to a top portion of the third column.

Method of separating linear alpha olefins

A method of column control includes: passing a feed stream and a make-up stream through a column; withdrawing an overhead fraction from the column; purging at least a portion of the overhead fraction; cooling at least a portion of the overhead fraction in a heat exchanger and passing it through a reflux drum; withdrawing a purge stream and a distillate stream from the reflux drum, wherein the distillate stream has a constant flow rate; recycling at least a portion of the distillate stream back to the column; and passing at least a portion of the distillate stream to a downstream process.

Method of column control
