Carbon nanotube-functionalized reverse thermal gel and methods of forming and using same

Provided herein is a class of reversible thermal gel polymers, formulations thereof, methods for using, and methods for making said reversible thermal gel polymers. Reversible thermal gel polymers and formulations are provided having versatile chemical, physical, mechanical and/or optical properties beneficial for a range of applications including medical treatment. In some embodiments, the architecture and composition of the polymer allows for tunable selection of one or more physical properties supporting a particular application.

A heparin-mimicking sulfonated reverse thermal gel (SRTG) as a heparin-binding therapeutic protein delivery system. This system is designed to turn from low viscous liquid to a physical gel by exposure to body temperature alone. This allows direct deployment through a small gauge needle or catheter at target area with minimal surgical intervention. A unique aspect of this system is that it possesses a net negative charge due to the presence of sulfonate groups. This allows the SRTG to mimic heparin function, binding and preserving the bioactivity of positively charged therapeutic proteins, providing localized and sustained release of such proteins.

Antimicrobial polymers, composition including the polymers, and methods of forming and using the polymers and compositions are disclosed. The compositions have reverse thermal gelling properties and transform from a liquid to a gel&#x2014;e.g., near or below body temperature, such as a skin temperature in an operating room. The polymers and compositions can be applied to a surface, such as a surface of skin proximate an incision site prior to surgery, to provide a relatively sterile area near the site.

Antimicrobial reverse thermal gel and methods of forming and using same

Antimicrobial quaternized polyurethane materials and methods of forming and using the materials are disclosed. The quaternized polyurethane antimicrobial materials may be synthesized from one or more diisocyanates and one or more diols or triols. The quaternized polyurethane materials may be stand alone or coated onto other surfaces, such as medical devices, table tops, air/water filters, or the like to provided desired antimicrobial devices and surfaces.

Antimicrobial polyurethane materials and methods of forming and using same

Therapeutic agent delivery systems, which include a thermally-sensitive copolymer and optionally a therapeutic agent, are disclosed. The copolymer is water soluble and biodegradable and, in accordance with exemplary embodiments, includes hydrophobic and hydrophilic portions. The systems may include supplemental compounds, such as polymeric nanoparticles, micelle compounds, or a combination thereof, to further provide sustained release of the therapeutic agent.
