Disclosed are embodiments of methods and apparatuses for positioning user equipment (UE). A method for positioning UE may comprise calculating expected receiving time differences between respective expected times for the UE to receive positioning reference signals (PRSs) from a plurality of neighbor base stations respectively and an expected time for the UE to receive a PRS from a reference base station, determining a PRS timing offset to at least partially compensate for the expected receiving time difference of at least one of the plurality of neighbor base stations, and sending the PRS timing offset to the at least one of the plurality of neighbor base stations.

Method and apparatus for positioning reference signal transmission and reception

UE positioning is added by use of a reconfigurable reflecting surface (e.g., IRS). The IRS is configured to adjust elements of the surface. The configuration may include signal switching on or off, signal phase, group delay, or signal amplitude. Positioning reference signal transmissions are performed that have line of sight to the UE and that reflect off the IRS. The UE takes measurements for the transmissions and can determine measurement(s) of angle of arrival or time of arrival or reference signal received power, and/or determine a channel estimation. Multiple methods are proposed to provide UE positioning.

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to beam selection during downlink positioning. According to embodiments of the present disclosure, the terminal devices are grouped based on their characteristics and the anchor terminal device in the group determines the best transmitting beam of the neighbor network device. The non-anchor terminal device uses the assistance information of the best transmitting beam determined by the anchor terminal device. In this way, cost for the terminal device to receive and measure the PRS during downlink positioning has been reduced.

Beam selection during downlink positioning

An apparatus, method and computer program is described. The method can include receiving a first measurement report from a first communication node of a mobile communication system. The first measurement report can include downlink measurement data generated at a user device in response to a positioning reference signal sent by the first communication node. The method can further include receiving a second measurement report from the first communication node. The second measurement report can include uplink measurement data generated at the first communication node in response to an uplink reference signal sent by the user device. The method can also include determining an integrity of the measurement data based on a comparison of said uplink and downlink measurement data and setting an integrity verification notification in accordance with the determined integrity.

Device positioning

A system comprising a first apparatus, a second apparatus and a third apparatus, wherein the first apparatus is configured to provide, to a second apparatus, information regarding a number of antennas and/or an oversampling factor; the second apparatus is configured to transmit a plurality of beams in accordance with the information received from the first apparatus regarding the number of antennas and the oversampling factor; the third apparatus configured to receive a plurality of beamformed reference signals transmitted by the second apparatus, obtain measurement results for at least two of the plurality of beamformed reference signals, wherein the measurement results comprise one or more of: reference signal received power value, beam identifier, a value indicating uncertainty of the accuracy of the reference signal received power value; and transmit the measurement results to the second apparatus; and wherein the second apparatus is further configured to: process the received measurement results to obtain information regarding a position of the third apparatus and to transmit the obtained information regarding the position of the third apparatus to the first apparatus; and wherein the first apparatus is further configured to receive further measurement results from at least one further apparatus in addition to the second apparatus and to determine the location of the third apparatus based on the received measurement results and the received further measurement results.

Obtaining location information

Method, apparatuses, and computer program product for providing an efficient receiver beam selection scheme during positioning which utilizes the uplink (UL). One method may include creating a group of user equipment with one or more user equipment according to user equipment characteristics. The method may also include assigning a group identification for the group of user equipments. The method may further include assigning an anchor user equipment for the group of user equipments.

Receiver beam selection during uplink positioning

An apparatus is disclosed, the apparatus comprising means for estimating a first angle (θ) between a first path between a first base station and at least one target node and a second path between the first base station and a second base station, and estimating a second angle (θ) between a third path between the second base station and the at least one target node and the second path. The apparatus also comprises means for determining a value (Δd) indicative of a difference between a first distance between the at least one target node and the first base station and a second distance between the at least one target node and the second base station, wherein determining the value is based on the estimated first and second angles (θ) (θ) and a known distance (l) between the first and second base stations.

An apparatus, method and computer program is described comprising: receiving a first measurement report from a first communication node of a mobile communication system, wherein the first measurement report includes downlink measurement data generated at a user device in response to a positioning reference signal sent by the first communication node; receiving a second measurement report from the first communication node, wherein the second measurement report includes uplink measurement data generated at the first communication node in response to an uplink reference signal sent by the user device; determining an integrity of the measurement data based on a comparison of said uplink and downlink measurement data; and setting an integrity verification notification in accordance with the determined integrity.
