Metallic, electrically conductive, structures on smart glasses, which can be utilized to provide structural integrity and/or thermal dissipation capability, can be leveraged to provide antenna capability as well. Metallic structures on smart glasses are utilized as antenna grounds, with corresponding antenna elements being electrically coupled thereto, and located on the glasses temple. Such antenna elements implement folded antennas having an antenna length selected in accordance with desired communicational frequencies. A shorting pin establishes the electrical connection to the antenna ground. Metallic structures on smart glasses are also utilized as antenna elements, with different metallic structures acting as the antenna ground. Such antenna elements implement monopole antennas having a length selected in accordance with desired communicational frequencies, and a width that can maintain structural integrity and/or thermal dissipation capability. Multiple antenna elements are manufactured onto a single glasses temple, and both temples of the smart glasses comprise antennas.

Antenna design and manufacturing for smart glasses antennas

Systems, devices, methods, computer-readable media, techniques, and methodologies are disclosed for optimizing radio frequency configuration of a user device for better power management and faster time to first fix. The radio frequency configuration of user devices may be optimized based on user input analysis, machine learning, or crowd sourcing methodologies.

Individual radio frequency configuration for user devices

Antenna carriers with magneto-dielectric material and beam-shaping elements for enhanced performance and radiation safety of electronic devices are described. One electronic device includes a housing, an antenna element disposed on an antenna carrier, and a printed circuit board (PCB) disposed within the housing, the printed circuit board including radio frequency (RF) circuitry. The antenna carrier can be made up of a plastic cap, a ground plane, and a magneto-dielectric substrate with both dielectric and magnetic properties. The plastic cap is disposed at a first side of the housing and the magneto-dielectric substrate is disposed on a top surface of the plastic cap. The antenna element is disposed on a bottom surface of the magneto-dielectric substrate and electrically coupled to the RF circuitry. The antenna element radiates electromagnetic energy in a resonant mode and the magnetic property of the magneto-dielectric material increase efficiency, frequency bandwidth, or both.

A user device selects a communication module from a plurality of communication modules of the user device to communicate first data to a first device in a first configuration, selects a first antenna from a plurality of antennas of the user device to communicate the first data in the first configuration, and couples the communication module to the first antenna in the first configuration. The user device additionally selects the communication module to communicate second data to a second device in a second configuration, selects the first antenna and a second antenna from the plurality of antennas to communicate the second data in the second configuration, and couples the communication module to the first antenna and the second antenna in the second configuration.

Reconfigurable antenna system

Antenna structures and methods of operating the same of an electronic device are described. One apparatus includes a single radio frequency (RF) feed and a folded monopole element coupled to the single RF feed. The folded monopole element is an integrated WAN/GNSS antenna that receives electromagnetic energy in a first frequency band and receives electromagnetic energy in a second frequency band. The first frequency band is a wireless area network (WAN) frequency band and the second frequency band is a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) frequency band. The apparatus further includes an impedance matching circuit coupled to the single RF feed. The impedance matching circuit includes a diplexer to extract out GNSS frequency signals received by the folded monopole element from WAN signals received by the folded monopole element.
