A secondary battery is disclosed. In one aspect, the battery includes an electrode assembly, a can accommodating the electrode assembly therein and a cap assembly sealing the can. The cap assembly includes a sub-plate electrically connected to the electrode assembly and a vent having a protruding portion electrically connected to the sub-plate. The vent includes i) a first fracture portion and ii) a second fracture portion formed between the first fracture portion and the protruding portion.

A rechargeable battery includes an electrode assembly including a positive electrode and a negative electrode, a case for accommodating the electrode assembly, a cap plate combined to the case, a vent plate disposed under the cap plate and formed with a notch, a middle plate disposed under the vent plate, and a heat-resistant insulating layer disposed between the vent plate and the middle plate.

Rechargeable battery

A secondary battery includes an electrode assembly, a case and a safety member. The electrode assembly has a first electrode plate, a second electrode plate and a separator interposed between the first and second electrode plates. The case accommodates the electrode assembly, and has an opened top. The safety member is inserted into an upper inside portion of the case, and seals the case. In the secondary battery, the safety member comprises an outer member contacting an inner surface of the case and having a center passing therethrough, an inner member spaced apart from the outer member at a predetermined interval and positioned at the center of the outer member, and a connection member connecting the outer and inner members. Accordingly, it is possible to increase the capacity of the battery.

A rechargeable battery includes an electrode assembly including a positive electrode and a negative electrode, a case receiving the electrode assembly, a cap plate coupled to the case, a vent plate under the cap plate, the vent plate including a notch, a middle plate under the vent plate, and a laminating insulating layer between the vent plate and the middle plate, the laminating insulating layer being laminated to the vent plate or the middle plate.

A secondary battery including a fixing part on the inside of the can is disclosed. In one embodiment, the battery includes an electrode assembly having a diameter of L, a can housing the electrode assembly and at least one fixing portion extending from an inner wall of the can toward an outer surface of the electrode assembly. In one embodiment, Lis defined as the shortest distance between two portions of the inner wall of the can which are substantially directly opposing with respect to each other. The electrode assembly is separated from the fixing part by a gap such that the electrode assembly is prevented from contacting the can.

A secondary battery includes an electrode assembly having a first electrode plate, a second electrode plate and a separator interposed between the first and second electrode plates; a lower case accommodating the electrode assembly therein; and a cap assembly sealing the lower case. In the secondary battery, the lower case has the electrode assembly and a vent portion, and includes a surface facing the cap assembly. The vent portion includes an intersecting portion formed inside the surface, first and second curved portions curved to extend from the intersecting portion, and an extending portion extended in a straight line from the intersecting portion. The thickness of the intersecting portion includes the minimum thickness of the surface.

A rechargeable battery including: an electrode assembly; a center pin arranged at a center of the electrode assembly; a case containing the electrode assembly; and a cap assembly coupled to an opening of the case and electrically connected to the electrode assembly, and the center pin includes a first pipe arranged at the center of the electrode assembly, and a second pipe arranged in the first pipe with a buffering space between the first pipe and the second pipe, the second pipe having a strength that is different from a strength of the first pipe.

A cylinder type secondary battery includes a can having an opening, an electrode assembly in the can, a cap assembly covering the opening of the can, an upper insulating plate between the electrode assembly and the cap assembly; a support plate on the upper insulating plate; the support plate having a peripheral edge, wherein an area of the support plate is smaller than an area of the upper insulating plate, and a first electrode tab extending from the electrode assembly, the first electrode tab having a first section contacting the support plate, a second section contacting the cap assembly, and a bent section between the first section and the second section, wherein a portion of the bent section protrudes from the peripheral edge of the support plate.

Cylinder type secondary battery

A secondary battery is disclosed. The secondary battery includes an adhesive configured to attach to the electrode plates so as to strengthen the battery against separation, to reduce production of dust, and to protect the battery from dust.

Provided are a cap assembly for a secondary battery. The cap assembly includes a cap-up, a PTC thermistor disposed under the cap-up, a vent disposed under the PTC thermistor, and an insulating plate disposed between the vent and the cap-up and preventing contact between the vent and the PTC thermistor. Here, the vent includes a curling part bent to cover an external surface of the insulating plate. Further, the secondary battery includes an electrode assembly, a can accommodating the electrode assembly and having an opening, and the cap assembly which seals the can.
