Radio frequency antennas sharing a ground plane are largely decoupled using one or more lumped capacitive elements set into holes within the ground plane. The holes, which are precisely placed, can extend to a side of the ground plane. A stub extends from a fringe of the hole either straight or bending in an L shape, and a capacitor connects between an end of the stub and another side of the hole. Capacitive elements can also be supported on raised solder pads above a ground plane or off to one side of the ground plane. Methods for manufacturing the decoupling apparatus are described.

Device and method of reducing mutual coupling of two antennas by adding capacitors on ground

A magnetic current dipole feeding structure for patch and dielectric resonator antennas is disclosed in which a wire coil helix is placed above the ground plane and below the patch or top of the dielectric resonator block, the coil having half wound in a right-hand orientation and another half in a left-hand orientation, meeting at a common point in the middle. One end of the double torsion coil can be excited with radio frequency (RF) signals, and the other can be grounded on the ground plane. Some embodiments have the other end fed by an equal signal. These double torsion coils can be used in pairs to provide differential feeding to the patch or dielectric resonator, and pairs placed orthogonally to a first pair can be used for another polarization.

The disclosure provides antenna assemblies and methods for reducing mutual coupling of coupled antennas. According to an embodiment, the antenna assembly, comprises: a first antenna; and a second antenna coupled with the first antenna; wherein a first capacitive load is provided to the first antenna at a first position of the first antenna so that a mutual coupling between the first antenna and the second antenna is reduced. According to the present disclosure, at least some of the following advantages may be achieved: 1) no any component that connects or structure between coupled antennas is required; 2) the capacitive load is very little frequency dependent so that the method is highly suitable for antenna decoupling at low frequencies; 3) the required capacitive load takes almost no space in the circuit layout; and 4) the load does not noticeably change antenna radiation patterns.

Antenna assembly and self-curing decoupling method for reducing mutual coupling of coupled antennas

Disclosed is an air-filled patch antenna, comprising: a ground plane; a patch arranged to be in parallel to the ground plane; four inherent metal legs extending from the patch perpendicularly, wherein each of distal ends of the four legs is electrically and mechanically connected to the ground plane; and a feeding structure configured to provide a signal interface to the antenna.

Disclosed is an apparatus for decoupling two antennas in an antenna array, in which the two antennas transmit and receive signals via a first input/output port and a second input/output port of the apparatus. The device may comprise a first adjusting device connected between a first antenna of the two antennas and the first input/output port, a second adjusting device connected between a second antenna of the two antennas and the second input/output port, and one or more decoupling networks connected between the first input/output port and the second input/output port. The first adjusting device and the second adjusting device are configured to have admittance adjustable to compensate an admittance of the decoupling networks such that an isolation coefficient between the two input/output ports approaches zero as well as reflection coefficients of each input/output port are minimized.

Method and an apparatus for decoupling multiple antennas in a compact antenna array

Devices and methods for reducing interference between closely collocated antennas working at the same or adjacent frequencies are disclosed. According to one embodiment, the antenna array comprises a plurality of antennas for transmitting signals from and receiving signals to a plurality of transceivers respectively, and the device comprises a plurality of resonators; a first set of ports, each of which is connected to a respective one of the plurality of transceivers; and a second set of ports, each of which is connected to a respective one of the plurality of antennas; wherein each of the transceivers and the antennas is connected to a respective one of the resonators, and coupling coefficients among the resonators as well as a resonance frequency of each of the resonators are configured so that a desired isolation among the first set of ports and a desired matching at each of the first set of ports are obtained.
