Circuits for controlling magnetic-based tracking systems are described. These systems may be used in virtual reality applications, for example to track in real-time the location of one or more body parts. The systems use a beacon emitting mutually orthogonal magnetic fields. On the receiver side, one or more sensors disposed on different parts of a body receive the magnetic fields. The beacon includes switching amplifiers for driving the magnetic field emitters. Being binary, these amplifiers may be controlled by binary signals. The circuits may exhibit a resonant frequency response, and may be operated off-resonance, thus providing for a better control of the magnetic fields amplitude. As a result, however, fluctuations in the envelop of the magnetic fields due to the presence of a beating tone may arise. These fluctuations may be shortened by gradually activating the drivers for the magnetic field emitters.

A sensor includes a ferromagnetic shield, at least one sensor coil disposed around an exterior of the ferromagnetic shield, and an electronics module within the ferromagnetic shield. The electronics module is configured to determine the position and/or orientation of the sensor based at least in part on a measurement of a signal induced in the at least one sensor coil.

Techniques and examples pertaining to combined wireless charging and position tracking are described. A method may involve a processor of an apparatus operating in a first mode to effect wireless charging via at least a first coil of a plurality of coils of the apparatus. The method may also involve the processor operating in a second mode to effect position tracking via at least a second coil of the plurality of coils of the apparatus.

A virtual reality (VR) system including a virtual reality display and a virtual reality host is provided. The virtual reality display is arranged for displaying a virtual environment for a virtual reality user. The virtual reality host is arranged for performing a virtual reality session to generate the virtual environment using the virtual reality display and creating a virtual interface to sync and interact with a source unit, wherein when the source unit receives an incoming event, the virtual reality host receives a notification regarding the incoming event from the source unit and provides the notification to the virtual interface to generate an alert for the notification to the screen of the virtual reality display in the virtual environment for the virtual reality user.

Systems and methods for processing incoming events while performing a virtual reality session

A head-mount display (HMD) and variations thereof are described. An HMD may include a mobile device having a display unit, a camera, a light source and a processing unit that controls operations of the display unit, camera and light source. The processing unit receives data associated with one or more optical images captured by the camera, and renders a visual image displayable by the display unit. The HMD may also include an eyewear piece having a holder, one or more lenses and a reflective unit. The holder is wearable by a user and holds the mobile device in front of eyes of the user. The user can view the display unit through the one or more lenses. The reflective unit reflects an image of at least an eye of the user. The camera is oriented to capture the reflected image of the eye through the reflective unit.

In a communications apparatus first radio module communicates with a first wireless network and provides wireless communication services in compliance with a first RAT. A second radio module communicates with a second wireless network and provides wireless communication services in compliance with a second RAT. At least two antennas are shared by the first radio module and the second radio module. When the first radio module operates in an idle mode and when the timing of the first radio module performing a first receiving activity coincides with the timing of the second radio module performing a second receiving activity, the second radio module uses the antennas to perform the second receiving activity when a DRX cycle duration of the first radio module in the idle mode is shorter than a DRX cycle duration of the second radio module.

A communications apparatus. A first radio module communicates with a first wireless network and provides wireless communications services. A second radio module communicates with a second wireless network and provides wireless communications services. At least two antennas shared by the first radio module and the second radio module. When the first radio module operates in a connected mode and when the timing of the first radio module performing the first receiving activity coincides with the timing of the second radio module performing a second receiving activity, the first radio module reports a value of 1 for a Rank Indicator to the first wireless network at least once before the second radio module is to perform the second receiving activity, and then the second radio module uses one of the antennas to perform the second receiving activity.

A method and apparatus for determining an operational mode for use in a wireless communication system based on a location, a velocity, or both, of a wireless communication device (WCD) in relation to a wireless network infrastructure is described. The selected mode can be used by various devices within the communication system. Modes that are selected include transmit diversity and site selection diversity.

Utilizing speed and position information to select an operational mode in a wireless communication system

Techniques for improved low latency frequency switching are disclosed. In one embodiment, a controller receives a frequency switch command and generates a frequency switch signal at a time determined in accordance with a system timer. In another embodiment, gain calibration is initiated subsequent to the frequency switch signal delayed by the expected frequency synthesizer settling time. In yet another embodiment, DC cancellation control and gain control are iterated to perform gain calibration, with signaling to control the iterations without need for processor intervention. Various other embodiments are also presented. Aspects of the embodiments disclosed may yield the benefit of reducing latency during frequency switching, allowing for increased measurements at alternate frequencies, reduced time spent on alternate frequencies, and the capacity and throughput improvements that follow from minimization of disruption of an active communication session and improved neighbor selection.

Low latency frequency switching

Noise measurements are made within a fraction of a single symbol period of a longest orthogonal code symbol. A control processor identifies an unoccupied code having a spreading factor that is less than a longest spreading factor for the system. A despreader measures symbol energy based on the unoccupied code and a noise estimator generates noise estimations based on the measured symbol energies. The subscriber station uses similar techniques in order to perform channel estimations within a period that is a fraction of a symbol period of a longest-spreading-factor code.

Techniques for segmented CDMA searching are disclosed. In one aspect, a searcher comprises a plurality of storage elements selectable for performing a plurality of segmentable search tasks, each storage element operable for storage of and access to state information for one of the plurality of search tasks. In another aspect, a first search task is interrupted in progress, the state information for the first task is stored, a second search task is performed, and the first search task is continued using the stored state information. In yet another aspect, a search task is segmented into smaller search segments, sized to fit within contiguous available time in the searcher. Various other aspects of the invention are also presented. These aspects have the benefit of circuit area and search-time efficiency which translate into reduced costs, increased standby time, increased acquisition speed, higher quality signal transmission, increased data throughput, decreased power, and improved overall system capacity.

Segmented CDMA searching

Techniques for inter-frequency neighbor list searching are disclosed. Embodiments disclosed herein address the need for inter-frequency neighbor list searching. In one embodiment, a searcher is deployed to search a PN space with a first set of search parameters and to return search results. A subset of those results is selected, along with a previously saved search result, to form a set of PN locations for a second search. The second search is performed on a window around each of the PN locations, using a second set of search parameters. The maximum peak from the second search is saved for use in future iterations. In one embodiment, the subset is selected as the highest energy level peaks from the first search. In one embodiment, if a maximum peak is deemed to correspond to a valid base station when the position of that maximum peak is within a pre-determined time offset from a previous maximum peak.

Inter-frequency neighbor list searching

Techniques to more efficiently control the transmit power for a data transmission that uses a number of formats (e.g., rates, transport formats). Different formats for a given data channel (e.g., transport channel) may require different target SNIRs to achieved a particular BLER. In one aspect, individual target BLER may be specified for each format of each data channel. In another aspect, various power control schemes are provided to achieve different target SNIRs for different formats. In a first power control scheme, multiple individual outer loops are maintained for multiple formats. For each format, its associated outer loop attempts to set the target SNIR such that the target BLER specified for that format is achieved. In a second power control scheme, multiple individual outer loops are maintained and the base station further applies different adjustments to the transmit power levels for different formats.
