In a computer system, print jobs are printed on a selected printer utilizing the printer properties in effect for that printer at the time that the print job was spooled for printing. Typically, the printer prints utilizing default printer properties. However, users may temporarily override these default values by specifying temporary printer properties from within applications. A printer properties notification is provided to a user when temporary printer properties are in effect when printing is initiated. Selection buttons provided during this notification allow the user to then indicate how to proceed.

Notifying a computer user of printing with temporary printer properties

A media routing control device and method for qualifying media for use with a sheet-fed device includes a sensor configured to detect a characteristic of a media sheet. The device further includes a usable sheet media path and an unusable sheet media path. A sheet-inverting duplexing path inverts the media sheet when necessary and a controller controls the routing of the media sheet along one of the media paths according to the detected characteristic.

Media routing control based on a characteristic of the media

A media qualification device configured to sort media sheets according to one or more detected media characteristics. The media qualification device comprises a media sensor, an unusable media path and at least one usable media path. Qualified media sheets may be passed to a sheet-fed device for image processing. Qualified media sheets may be sorted among a plurality of usable media paths according to media grade. The media qualification device may further comprise an input/output device configured to select media grade parameters.

Media qualification accessory and method

Disclosed are systems and methods for print recommendation and control. In one embodiment, a system and method pertain to analyzing print job parameters, determining whether any of the print job parameters are impermissible, and interrupting the print job if one or more print job parameters is determined to be impermissible. In another embodiment, a system and method pertain to analyzing print job parameters, determining if one or more print job parameters is likely to create an adverse printing outcome, and if it is determined that an adverse printing outcome is likely, notifying the user as to the likelihood of the adverse printing outcome and providing an alternative print recommendation to the user.
