Disclosed herein is an oxygen scavenging composition for containers. The oxygen scavenging composition for containers may comprise at least one polyester component, a transition metal catalyst, an oxygen scavenger, and a vegetable oil. The vegetable oil preferably comprises at least one molecule having a double allylic structure. The polyester component preferably comprises at least one acid unit and at least one diol unit. The concentration of double allylic structures of the vegetable oil in the composition may be greater than 5.0 meq/kg of all of the polyester components. The oxygen scavenger is preferably present in the composition at a level less than 1.0% by weight of the total composition. The vegetable oil is preferably present in the composition at a level greater than 0.3% by weight relative to the total weight of the polyester components, the transition metal catalyst and the vegetable oil.

Oxygen scavenging polyester compositions for containers

Described herein are oxygen scavengers, oxygen scavenging polymeric compositions, and oxygen scavenging articles. The polymeric compositions comprising the oxygen scavengers may have utility in packaging, sealing, wrapping, and storing oxygen-sensitive substances, e.g., to preserve freshness of foods, beverages, and the like.

Oxygen scavengers

Disclosed herein is an oxygen scavenging composition for containers. The oxygen scavenging composition may comprise at least one polyester component, which is a copolyester containing a metal sulfonate salt group, a transition metal catalyst, and a vegetable oil. The vegetable oil may comprise at least one molecule having a double allylic structure. The copolyester containing a metal sulfonate salt group may comprise at least one acid unit and at least one diol unit. The concentration of the double allylic structures of the vegetable oil in the composition may be greater than 5.0 meq/kg of all of the polyester components. The composition may also be void of or substantially void of a polyamide.

Polyester blends with improved oxygen scavenging ability

Disclosed herein is a preform having a preform wall. The preform wall preferably comprises a composition comprising at least one polyester component, a transition metal catalyst, and a vegetable oil. The vegetable oil may comprise at least one molecule having a double allylic structure. The at least one polyester component may comprise at least one acid unit and at least one diol unit. The concentration of double allylic structures of the vegetable oil in the composition may be greater than 5.0 meq/kg of all of the polyester components. The preform has improved aesthetic characteristics.

Oxygen scavenging polyester blends having improved aesthetic characteristics

This specification discloses a composition of a melt blend comprising a continuos polyester phase, a cobalt of manganese compound and a first scavenging compound wherein the first scavenging compound comprises at least one allylic group and at least one polar moiety and at least some of the first scavenging compound or the oligomer or the polymer comprising the first scavenging compound is not present in the continuous polyester phase. The partial insolubility is essential for oxygen scavenging and the solubility is essential for reducing haze. The composition is useful in preforms, container walls, and films for packaging.
