A disposable cartridge adapted to be used with a sensor-dispensing instrument comprises a housing, test sensors, a mechanical mechanism and moveable seals. The housing forms at least one opening therethrough. The test sensors are stacked in the housing. The test sensors are adapted to assist in testing at least one analyte. The mechanical mechanism is adapted to urge the test sensors in a first direction. One of the test sensors is positioned for ejection from the cartridge. The moveable seals is adapted to be in a closed position that seals the at least one opening so as to provide a substantially moisture-proof and a substantially air-tight cartridge, and one of the moveable seals is adapted to be in an open position that allows one of the test sensors to be moved therethrough.

Cartridge and sensor-dispensing instrument

A lancing device comprises a main housing, a movable housing and a pushbutton. The main housing encloses a portion of a lancing mechanism. The lancing mechanism includes a lancet holder attached to a shaft. The lancet holder receives a lancet and has a slot formed therein. The lancing mechanism moves between a rest position, a cocked position, and a puncture position. The movable housing is adjacent to the main housing. The movable housing moves from a rest position to a cocking position and a lancet-release position. The pushbutton allows the lancing mechanism to move from the cocked position to the puncture position upon depression of the pushbutton. The pushbutton includes a lancet-release tab that extends into the slot formed in the lancet holder and engages the lancet. The lancet is released from the lancet holder in response to the continued depression of the pushbutton and the movable housing is moved from the rest position to the lancet-release position.

Lancet-eject mechanism

A test device adapted to test a concentration of an analyte in a fluid has a pickup area having a first volume for receiving the fluid. In fluid communication with the pickup area is a read area having a second volume, which is less than the first volume. Since the second volume is less than the first volume, fluid from the pickup area will flow into the read area only after the pickup area is full. The read area also contains a reagent that is adapted to indicate the concentration of the analyte in the fluid.

Volume meter testing device and method of use

An auto-calibration label for use with one or more sensing instruments. The label includes first and second encoded calibration information. The second encoded calibration information may correspond to a different instrument than the first encoded calibration information. The second encoded information may also be used to provide additional calibration information for use with the first instrument. The label may be removably attached to a sensor package including a plurality of sensors. A first conductive ink pattern is disposed on the label to define the first encoded calibration information. The first conductive ink pattern is disposed contemporaneously with or without a portion of a second conductive ink pattern defining the second encoded calibration information. An insulating layer is disposed on the first pattern. The second ink pattern is disposed on the insulating layer. The first pattern is operable with the first instrument, not the second instrument. The second pattern is operable with the second instrument, not the first instrument.

Auto-calibration label and apparatus comprising same

A lancing mechanism for puncturing skin is provided. The lancing mechanism comprises a lance having a penetration end which is adapted to puncture skin. The penetration end of the lance is movable from a first position to a second position during a forward stroke and between the second position and the first position during a return stroke. A forcing plunger applies a force to the lance to move the lance from the first position to the second during the forward stroke. The forcing plunger is adapted to engage the lance during the forward stroke to move the penetration end of the lance from the first position to the second position and to disengage the lance when the penetration end of the lance approaches the second position. A first resilient member coupled to the lance moves the first end of the lance from the second position to the first position during the return stroke.

Lancing mechanism

An adjustable endcap for a lancing device includes a basecap and a twistcap. The basecap includes a post with detents thereon. At least one finger is provided on the basecap adjacent the post. The twistcap includes at least one helical track on its outer surface into which the finger extends when the twistcap is mounted on the post. The twistcap also includes a plurality of grooves on an inner surface for engagement with the detents. As the twistcap is rotated on the post, the interaction of the finger and track causes the twistcap to move toward and away from the basecap and to adjust the penetration depth of a lance reciprocally mounted in the lancing device.

Blood glucose sensor dispensing instrument

A vacuum assisted lancing device (10) for obtaining capillary blood from body sites includes a plunger (12) mounted in a barrel or upper housing (24) that upon being pressed by a user, drives a lancet (18) to puncture skin at a body site. A vacuum member such as a diaphragm (38, 66) or bellows (66) is displaced by the plunger (12) and displaces air in the lancing device (10) to create a vacuum. The vacuum draws skin partially into the lancing device (10) causing blood to form at the puncture. The vacuum is then released and the blood is tested.

Vacuum assisted lancing device

A blood sampling device (10) is provided with a housing (12), an end cap (60) adapted to be connected to the housing (12), and a lancet (32) which is movable in a lancing direction between a retracted position in which the lancet (32) does not extend outside of the end cap (60) and an extended position in which the lancet (32) is adapted to make a puncture having a depth. The blood sampling device (10) includes an actuator mechanism for causing the lancet (32) to move from the retracted position to the extended position and an attachment mechanism for allowing the end cap (60) to be securely attached to the housing (12) by moving the end cap (60) in a direction parallel to the lancing direction from a removed position in which the end cap (60) is separated from the housing (12) to a secured position in which the end cap (60) is securely attached to the housing (12) and a mechanism for adjusting the puncture depth of the lancet (32).
