The present disclosure relates to a method for instruction processing with a processor having multiple execution units. The processor includes a dependency cache containing instructions in association with respective execution unit indicators. The method includes: tracking the number of dependent instructions currently assigned to each execution unit of the processor respectively. In response to receiving an instruction of a dependency chain, the execution unit assigned to a previous instruction of the dependency chain on which depends the received instruction may be identified in the dependency cache. In case more than a predefined maximum number of dependent instructions of at least one dependency chain is currently assigned to the identified execution unit, another execution unit of the processor may be selected for scheduling the received instruction, otherwise the received instruction may be scheduled on the identified execution unit.

Enhanced performance-aware instruction scheduling

A system and a method of clock-gating for multicycle instructions are provided. For example, the method includes enabling a plurality of logic blocks that include a subset of multicycle (MC) logic blocks and a subset of pipeline logic blocks. The method also includes computing a precise enable computation value after a plurality of cycles of executing an instruction, and disabling one or more of the subset of multicycle (MC) logic blocks based on the precise enable computation value. Also, at least the subset of pipeline logic blocks needed to compute the instruction remains on.

Clock-gating for multicycle instructions

Checking a computer processor design for soft error handling. A baseline simulation of a computer processor design is monitored to identify a target processing cycle of the baseline simulation during which a predefined event occurs during the baseline simulation. The baseline simulation is performed in accordance with a software model of the computer processor design, and the event is associated with processing an instruction that directly involves a predefined error injection target. A test simulation of the computer processor design is performed in accordance with the software model of the computer processor design. An error is injected into the predefined error injection target during a target processing cycle of the test simulation. A determination is made as to whether the error is detected by error-checking logic of the computer processor design.

Checking a computer processor design for soft error handling

A circuit includes reconfigurable units that are reconfigurable to compute a combined result. A first intermediate result of a first reconfigurable unit of the reconfigurable units is exchanged with a second intermediate result of the second reconfigurable unit of the reconfigurable units. The first reconfigurable unit computes a first portion of the combined result utilizing the second intermediate result. The second reconfigurable unit of the reconfigurable units computes a second portion of the combined result utilizing the first intermediate result.

Combining of several execution units to compute a single wide scalar result

A binary fused multiply-add floating-point unit configured to operate on an addend, a multiplier, and a multiplicand. The unit is configured to receive as the addend an unrounded result of a prior operation executed in the unit via an early result feedback path; to perform an alignment shift of the unrounded addend on an unrounded exponent and an unrounded mantissa; as well as perform a rounding correction for the addend in parallel to the actual alignment shift, responsive to a rounding-up signal.

Binary fused multiply-add floating-point calculations

A system and method for controlling post-silicon configurable instruction behavior are provided. For example, the method includes receiving data related to a compute circuit. The method also includes detecting a data pattern in the data. The method further includes determining that the data pattern is a special case that the compute circuit may handle improperly. The method also includes selecting a value from a post-silicon configurable data set based on the detected data. Further, the method includes changing a behavior of the compute circuit to produce a different output result based on the value selected from the post-silicon configurable data set.

Embodiments of the present invention disclose an apparatus and method for recovering a data signal in a digital transmission. A computer processor receives a data signal from a data signal input wire. The computer processor receives an external clock signal. The computer processor samples a binary bit of the data signal multiple times per clock cycle. The computer processor determines, for each sampling group, a sample and a quality measurement. The computer processor stores, for each sampling group, the sample and the quality measurement into a set of memory elements. The computer processor stores the sample from each sampling group into a first and a second delay chain. The computer processor determines a current sampling point. The computer processor transmits output corresponding to a content of the current sampling point to a data signal output wire.

Apparatus and method to recover a data signal

A synchronization system capable of simultaneously resetting frequency divide-by counters () of multiple processors (A, B) to zero regardless of the divide-by frequency signal (Mclk/n signal ()) and regardless of the magnitude of the clock mesh delays experienced by the Mclk/n signals in the processors. The synchronization system includes a mesh delay circuit () for each processor that simulates in the undivided signal (Mclk/1 signal ()) the clock mesh delay experienced by the Mclk/n signal in that processor so as to provide an Lclk signal (). A phase detector detects the phase offset between the Mclk/n signal and the Sysclk signal () and sends an asynchronous offset signal () to a counter re-setter () that resets the divide-by counter to zero based on the offset signal.
