A formation testing tool which performs the dual function of fracturing and in-situ proppant placement. The testing tool houses proppant slurry having proppant and fracture fluid therein, and a probe which seals against the wellbore wall. During operation, the probe seals against the wellbore wall whereby fluid communication may take place. Using a pump aboard the testing tool, the fracture fluid is forced through the probe and into the formation to produce the fractures. The testing tool, which has a pressurized compartment, then injects the proppant into the fractures.

A downhole tool for analyzing reservoir fluids includes a mechanism for extracting a fluid sample (e.g., single phase liquid sample) from a wellbore, a sample depressurization module to liberate the gas phase from the extracted fluid sample, and a gas sensor utilized to detect one or more components of the gas phase. In certain embodiments, the downhole tool may be a formation testing tool, and the depressurization module may be a bubble point measurement module.

A method for collecting a formation fluid for testing includes introducing a formation sample tool having a first port and a second port into a wellbore. A first fluid is injected through the first port into the formation to clear a sample passage and allow access to uncontaminated formation fluid. A second fluid is injected through the second port into the formation to provide a barrier adjacent to or around the sample passage. A sample of the uncontaminated formation fluid is removed from the formation through the first port.

System and method for collecting a representative formation fluid during downhole testing operations

A computer accepts dead-oil properties of a reservoir fluid sampled from a well. The dead-oil properties are the measured composition of the reservoir fluid after volatile components of the reservoir have substantially vaporized. The computer analyzes the dead-oil properties and a constraint to produce estimated live-oil properties of the reservoir fluid. The live-oil properties are the composition of the reservoir before the volatile components have substantially vaporized. The computer uses the estimated live-oil properties to make a decision regarding the well.

Methods of actuating a well tool can include releasing chemical energy from at least one portion of a reactive material, thermally expanding a substance in response to the released chemical energy, and applying pressure to a piston as a result of thermally expanding the substance, thereby actuating the well tool, with these steps being repeated for each of multiple actuations of the well tool. A well tool actuator can include a substance contained in a chamber, one or more portions of a reactive material from which chemical energy is released, and a piston to which pressure is applied due to thermal expansion of the substance in response to each release of chemical energy. A well tool actuator which can be actuated multiple times may include multiple portions of a gas generating reactive material, and a piston to which pressure is applied due to generation of the gas.

An in-well type sampling system including a sampling chamber actuable to receive a fluid sample and a pressure source coupled to the sampling chamber to supply pressure to the sampling chamber after the sampling chamber actuating. A pressure sensor is provided in communication with the pressure source to measure the pressure of the pressure source. A telemetry communicator is coupled to the pressure sensor to send a signal from the pressure sensor away from the sampling system.

A method of measuring parameters of a formation along multiple axes is disclosed. A formation tester tool is introduced into a wellbore. The formation tester tool includes a first probe oriented at an angle from a second probe about an axis of the formation tester tool. The first and second probes are positioned against a surface of the wellbore. Fluid is injected via at least one of the first and second probes. Pressure parameters corresponding to the fluid injected into the formation are monitored. Formation stresses about the formation fractures along multiple axes are determined based, at least in part, on the pressure parameters.

Apparatus and method for collecting and preserving in representative condition a fluid sample from a reservoir which comprises: positioning a sample container including a sampler in the vicinity of a subterranean zone to be sampled, and wherein the step of collecting and preserving the sample comprises allowing or causing the sample to first flow into the sample receptacle, wherein the movement of the sample into the sample receptacle is restricted by the movement of a sampling piston, and wherein the movement of the sampling piston is further controlled by the rotation of an electrical motor connected to the sample piston by mechanical linkage such that the rotation of the electric motor in either direction translates to lateral movement of the sample piston, the lateral movement of the sample piston in turn allowing sample to enter the sample receptacle, and wherein once an adequate volume of sample has been collected, reversing the direction of the electrical motor will serve to cause the sample piston to exert pressure on the collected sample and thus preserve the integrity of the sample from the deleterious effects of shrinkage as the sample is recovered to the surface.

A method of cleaning a well face during formation testing at a drill site is disclosed. A collection chamber disposed in a formation tester tool may be at least partially filled with cleansing fluid. The formation tester tool may be introduced into a wellbore and the cleansing fluid may be ejected through a probe coupled to the formation tester tool. The collection chamber may then be at least partially filled with a formation fluid sample. A face of the probe may be contacted by a retractable cleaning mechanism coupled to the formation tester tool.

A sampling tool to sample formation fluids in a wellbore is disclosed. The sampling tool may include a sample chamber having a fluid inlet port and a tubular portion.
