Provided herein are novel, high-forming multi-layer aluminum alloy packages that include a core layer and one or more cladding layers. The alloy packages have excellent bake-hardening properties and are highly recyclable. The packages also display exceptional bendability and elongation properties. Also provided herein are novel aluminum alloy compositions for use as cladding layers. The compositions contain up to 0.6 wt. % Fe and one or more of Mn, Ni, Ti, Co, Nb, Cr, V, Zr, Hf and Ta.

High-forming multi-layer aluminum alloy package

Provided are new high strength 6xxx and 7xxx series aluminum alloys and methods of making aluminum products thereof. These aluminum products may be used to fabricate components which may replace steel in a variety of applications including the automotive industry. In some examples, the disclosed high strength 6xxx and 7xxx series aluminum alloys can replace high strength steels with aluminum. In one example, steels having a yield strength below 450 MPa may be replaced with the disclosed 6xxx or 7xxx series aluminum alloys without the need for major design modifications.

High strength 6xxx and 7xxx aluminum alloys and methods of making the same

Provided herein are new clad aluminum alloy products and methods of making these alloys. These alloy products possess a combination of strength and other key attributes, such as corrosion resistance, formability, and joining capabilities. The alloy products can be used in a variety of applications, including automotive, transportation, and electronics applications.

Clad aluminum alloy products

A continuous casting and rolling line for casting, rolling, and otherwise preparing metal strip can produce distributable metal strip without requiring cold rolling or the use of a solution heat treatment line. A metal strip can be continuously cast from a continuous casting device and coiled into a metal coil, optionally after being subjected to post-casting quenching. This intermediate coil can be stored until ready for hot rolling. The as-cast metal strip can undergo reheating prior to hot rolling, either during coil storage or immediately prior to hot rolling. The heated metal strip can be cooled to a rolling temperature and hot rolled through one or more roll stands. The rolled metal strip can optionally be reheated and quenched prior to coiling for delivery. This final coiled metal strip can be of the desired gauge and have the desired physical characteristics for distribution to a manufacturing facility.

Metal casting and rolling line

Disclosed herein are aluminum alloy products and methods of making the aluminum alloy products. Specifically, disclosed herein is an aluminum alloy provided in a temper achieved by rapidly quenching the aluminum alloy product after hot rolling. The aluminum alloys provided in the tempers described herein allow an end user to further process the aluminum alloys using less time and requiring less energy.

F* and W temper aluminum alloy products and methods of making the same

Disclosed are high-strength aluminum alloys and methods of making and processing such alloys. More particularly, disclosed is a 6XXX series aluminum alloy exhibiting improved mechanical strength, formability, corrosion resistance, and anodized qualities. An exemplary method includes homogenizing, hot rolling, solutionizing, and quenching. In some cases, the processing steps can further include annealing and/or cold rolling.

High-strength 6XXX aluminum alloys and methods of making the same

In a first aspect, the invention provides aluminum alloy comprising the following composition, all values in weight %: Si 0.25-1.5 Cu 0.3-1.5 Fe up to 0.5 Mn up to 0.1 all other elements including Mg being incidental and present (if at all) then in an amount less than or equal to 0.05 individually, and less than or equal to 0.15 in aggregate, the balance being aluminum. In a second aspect, the invention provides a composite aluminum sheet product comprising a core layer and at least one clad layer wherein the at least one clad layer is an aluminum alloy comprising the following composition, all values in weight %: Si 0.25-1.5 Cu 0.3-1.5 Fe up to 0.5 Mn up to 0.1 all other elements including Mg being incidental and present (if at all) then in an amount less than or equal to 0.05 individually, and less than or equal to 0.15 in aggregate, the balance being aluminum. In a third aspect, the invention provides a method of making a joined structure of a steel component and an aluminum component made from the alloy and/or the sheet product of the invention.
