Aspects of the disclosure provide a method for reducing physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) decoding complexity at a user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication network. The method can include receiving from a base station a candidate demodulation reference signal (DMRS) sequence that is carried in a subframe and associated with a PDCCH carried in the subframe, calculating a correlation-based quality metric indicating a correlation between the received candidate DMRS sequence and a local DMRS sequence, and performing a PDCCH decoding process to decode the PDCCH when the quality metric is greater than a threshold.

Reference signal detection for reducing control decoding complexity

Methods and apparatuses pertaining to device-driven power scaling in advanced wireless modem architectures are described. A processor of a communication apparatus with time-varying peak processing capability during active operations negotiates with a wireless network, to which the communication apparatus is communicatively connected, to select one of a plurality of temporary capability states ranging between zero and peak performance of the communication apparatus. The processor initiates a capability state change such that the communication apparatus enters the selected temporary capability state from a current temporary capability state of the plurality of temporary capability states. The lifetime of the selected temporary capability state exceeds a control information period used by the wireless network to dynamically schedule data transmissions with the communication apparatus. The data transmissions between the communication apparatus and the wireless network are constrained according to the selected temporary capability state.

Device-driven power scaling in advanced wireless modem architectures

A wireless communication device includes a wireless transceiver to wirelessly receive and transmit radio frequency (RF) signals and sample a signal representative of the received RF signal over a predetermined time period. The receiver stores the sampled signal in a memory. After the predetermined time period, a processor, coupled to the wireless transceiver and the memory, concurrently searches the sampled signal for multiple communication signals each operating according to a corresponding one of multiple, different mobile communication standards. If one of the communication signals is found, the WCD attempts to connect wirelessly with a communication network from which the found communication signal originates.

Method and system for contactless dimensional measurement of articles

Techniques are provided for reducing interference in a wireless network. A user equipment device in a first wireless coverage area of a wireless network using a time division duplex transmission scheme to designate a maximum timing advance value for uplink transmissions based on potential interference between uplink transmissions made by the user equipment device in the first wireless coverage area or at least one other user equipment device in the first wireless coverage area, and downlink transmissions intended for at least one user equipment device in a second wireless coverage area of the wireless network. The maximum timing advance value may be based on relative cell radii or other cell properties of the first and second wireless coverage areas. A base station may determine the maximum timing advance and transmit the maximum timing advance to the user equipment device.

Reducing interference in wireless time division duplex systems by monitoring and limiting timing advance

The current invention provides simplifications to the user equipment (UE) radio front end module for the cellular handset or dongle through modification of the existing 3GPP specifications for LTE and WCDMA/HSPA+ in order to support half duplex (HD) operation. The option to support HD operation is provided without mandating upgrades to all existing base stations that have already been deployed. The instant invention further prevents HD UEs from attaching to any base stations which do not support HD operations. The instant invention further provides inter-frequency cell search periods for enabling HD UEs to communicate with any base stations/cells supporting the HD operations. The instant invention further enables the HSPA+ system to support the HD-FDD mode.

One aspect of the present invention includes a radio frequency (RF) receiver having a first mixer and a second mixer. The first mixer may be an I-mixer and the second mixer a Q-mixer for downconverting the received RF signal. An impedance circuit is disposed between the first mixer and the second mixer to decouple the channels. In another aspect of present invention, the RF receiver includes a digital filter having at least one complex coefficient. The digital filter exhibits asymmetrical frequency response, and may be used to compensate the asymmetrical frequency response of another filter in the RF receiver.

Techniques are provided that utilize information on the characteristics of the transmitted signal to improve the accuracy of the I/Q imbalance estimation and correction. These techniques can be used to achieve improved image rejection performance over existing solutions, through the use of signal conditioning, windowing and the use of statistical information on the received signal. A number of techniques aimed at improving the accuracy of the I/Q imbalance estimation/correction are presented, including different modes of I/Q imbalance estimation and I/Q imbalance correction in the presence of a complex IF filter in the transceiver. The processing is performed mostly in the DBB in order to be area/power efficient.

Techniques are provided for a radio link quality monitoring method and apparatus wherein a given user equipment device receives a plurality of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex symbols that comprise a plurality of resource elements distributed in time and frequency, and which include reference symbols. The objective of the radio link quality monitoring is to predict the user equipment detection probability of control messages transmitted by the base station. The radio link quality estimation process calculates two average signal to noise ratio values over the complete frequency bandwidth for two assumed control channel formats corresponding to in-sync and out-of-sync conditions. The results of the calculations are then used to deduce the average error probabilities that are compared with predefined thresholds to provide the in-sync/out-of-sync indications.

User equipment and method for radio link monitoring

Techniques are provided herein for digital data-aided frequency offset estimation offering better performance and increased accuracy over existing solutions. These new techniques also allow a trade-off between complexity and accuracy to be performed. The embodiments of the techniques for frequency offset estimation can be used for correction in both feedback and feed-forward control.

Techniques are provided for decoding tail-biting convolutional codes by using information within the received data stream that traditionally has not been used or been available to the convolutional decoder, e.g., cyclic redundancy check (CRC) and bit information known by both the transmitter and receiver. Further, a single parallel trace-back is used that reduces implementation complexity. In addition, the least reliable decisions made during forward processing may be reversed in order to generate additional possible codeword candidates. These techniques can be used to reduce false detection rates (FDRs) and/or detection error rates (DERs).

Tail-biting convolutional decoder and decoding method

The invention describes a method for predicting the performance of the MLD receiver in MIMO channels. The method is based on the iterative principle where the performance of the MLD decoder is derived from that of an iterative receiver architecture with similar performance. The described Iterative MIMO Effective SNR (IMES) technique maps the performance of each MIMO channel realization into a set of effective SNR values for the different streams. This set of effective SNR values can then be used to provide link adaptation feedback to the transmitter so that the most suitable transmission format can be selected according to the characteristics of the propagation channel. Alternatively, this information can be used to adapt the receiver processing to the channel conditions, thereby making it possible, for example, to reduce the receiver power consumption in good signal conditions.
