Techniques are described for aligning a vehicle to a wireless charger. Wireless communication is performed between at least a first wireless device of the vehicle and at least a second wireless device external to the vehicle. The first wireless device has a stationary position relative to the vehicle. The second wireless device has a stationary position relative to the wireless charger. Based on the wireless communication, a distance between the first and second wireless devices is measured and used to determine the relative position of the vehicle. A trajectory is calculated, based on the relative position of the vehicle, to enable the vehicle to be maneuvered into a charging position in which a charge receiving device of the vehicle is aligned with respect to the wireless charger. In some embodiments, multiple wireless devices on the vehicle or external to the vehicle participate in determining the relative position of the vehicle.

Wireless communication for aligning a vehicle to a wireless charger

Methods, systems, computer-readable media, and apparatuses for blended control of remote operation of vehicles are presented. The sensors of automated vehicles can detect conditions for which there is no preprogrammed response. In these situations, automated vehicles can engage a remote operator mode. Remote operation of vehicles can be difficult. These techniques can use the automated driving system of the vehicle to monitor the driving commands from a remote operator and the sensor information of the vehicle. The commands from the remote operator can be analyzed by a supervision module in the automated vehicle. The supervision module can also receive vehicle sensor information. The supervision module can correct or adjust the remote operator commands as necessary to avoid collision, dampen remote operator induced oscillations, and provide for a smoother, safer, and more realistic driving experience.

Techniques for blended control for remote operations

Techniques are described for compressing image data for transmission to a computer system of a remote operator controlling a vehicle. A visual representation of a surrounding environment is generated from one or more images captured at the vehicle. One or more regions of interest in the visual representation are identified based at least on information received from the computer system of the remote operator, the information indicating a direction or area of focus of the remote operator. Regions of interest can be compressed to a lesser extent than regions located outside the regions of interest. The compressed visual representation is transmitted to the computer system for decompression and, ultimately, display on one or more display devices viewed by the remote operator.

The present disclosure relates to a method, apparatus, and computer-readable storage medium for trajectory update using remote vehicle control. According to an embodiment, the above-described method, apparatus, and computer-readable storage medium of the present disclosure generally relate to identifying an obstacle blocking at least a portion of a road based on data received from one or more vehicle sensors, determining whether a path trajectory cannot be found to operate the vehicle with respect to the identified obstacle while the vehicle is operating in autonomous mode, sending, upon determination that the path trajectory cannot be found, a request to a remote controller to navigate the vehicle, operating the vehicle in remotely controlled mode, based upon instructions received from the remote controller, wherein a movement trajectory of the vehicle is recorded while being operated in the remotely controlled mode, and updating a navigational map based at least on the recorded movement trajectory.

Vehicle path updates via remote vehicle control

Techniques for remote operation of vehicles are presented. Remote operation can involve maneuvering, by a vehicle computer system, a vehicle based on driving instructions from a remote computer system. The vehicle computer system collects sensor data from a plurality of sensors onboard the vehicle. Based on the sensor data, data associated with a visual representation of the surrounding environment is generated and sent to the remote computer system. The generating of the data can involve fusing sensor data to identify one or more features of a surrounding environment. The generated data may be indicative of the identified features. The visual representation is output on a display device of the remote computer system. The driving instructions can be based on human input supplied in response to the visual representation. In certain embodiments, the vehicle is maneuvered toward a location within proximity of a parking space before performing automated parking.

Remote operation of vehicles in close-quarter environments

Systems and methods for operating a vehicle are provided. In one example, an apparatus comprises a portion of a window of the vehicle having a configurable light transmittance, an image output device, and a controller configured to operate in a first mode when the vehicle is partially or fully controlled by a driver inside the vehicle and to operate in a second mode when the vehicle is not controlled by a driver inside the vehicle. In the first mode, the controller can adjust a light transmittance of the portion of the window to a first value to enable the driver inside the vehicle to see through the window. In the second mode, the controller can adjust the light transmittance of the portion of the window to a second value lower than the first value, and control the image output device to display an image on the portion of the window.
