A sensor including a measuring assembly integrating at least one magnetoresistive element having a stack of two conductive magnetic layers, respectively reference and sensitive, the reference layer having magnetic anisotropy in the direction X and the sensitive layer having a direction Y, a polarization permanent magnet having a surface extending in a plane of directions X and Y and having a symmetry plane of directions X and Z, the measuring assembly being disposed with respect to the symmetry plane of the polarization magnet so that the layers of the magnetoresistive element are disposed in a plane parallel to the surface while being offset from said plane in the direction Y by a distance (&#x394;y) that is arranged so that the magnetic field of the polarization magnet orients the magnetisation of the sensitive layer in the direction Y.

Sensor for detecting a period magnetic field

Provided is a magnetic encoder which includes plural rows of magnetic encoder tracks. One magnetic encoder track of the magnetic encoder tracks includes magnetic pattern magnetized thereto to generate signals of equal pitch for detection of rotation. The magnetized magnetic pattern includes N poles and S poles arranged in alternate fashion. The magnetic encoder is configured to be employed spaced through an air gap from sensors that read magnetic signals of the respective magnetic encoder tracks. The magnetic encoder track is configured such that the magnetic pattern thereof acting on position of the corresponding sensor is, under the interference of magnetism of the plural rows of magnetic encoder tracks, detected by the corresponding sensor as an equal pitch magnetic pattern.

Magnetic encoder

A magnetic encoder magnetizing method, in which magnetization of the plural neighboring tracks of the magnetic encoder can be accurately performed, is provided. While an annular magnetic body having a plurality of annular, unmagnetized magnetic encoder tracks integral therewith and juxtaposed relative to each other is rotated, the tracks of the magnetic encoder are individually magnetized by a magnetizing head, made up of a magnetizing yoke and an exciting coil, to thereby provide the magnetic encoder. In the practice of this magnetizing method, when one of the tracks of the magnetic encoder is magnetized, the other track is covered with a magnetic shielding mask.
