In one embodiment, a fuser roll for fusing toner images onto a substrate includes a substantially rigid core member, a deformable, heat conductive base layer overlaying the surface of said core member, and an outer layer supported on the base layer. The outer layer is formed of a heat conductive, conformable amorphous metal.

Signals from a color (multi-row) full width array sensor are used to detect and correct for motion quality issues in a constant velocity transport or platen document scanner. This capitalizes on the geometry of the full width array sensor, in which three or four rows of photo sites are arranged in the slow scan direction. For example, the arrival time of an image edge of the red sensor row may be compared to the slightly later arrival time at the blue sensor row, and the difference yields the velocity. The velocity can then be fed back to control the transport.

Image systems and methods adjust hue angles of one or more colors in an image. The adjusted image may be output to a printer for printing. An image quality control is provided to allow a user to select one or more specific colors whose rendition is unacceptable. Each color may be tested to see if that color is outside the range of colors which can be printed accurately or acceptably on the target printer. If the selected color is outside the range of printable colors, a variety of alternatives can be offered to arrive at the best possible rendition. Otherwise, a variety of hue shifts can be offered, where each hue shift alters the rendition of only those colors having hue angles that are near the offensive color.

A printing subsystem for use in a network printing system, having a database communicating with a client browser, is provided. The database includes a plurality of data sets and the client browser includes a program with a set of instructions for displaying at least one of the plurality of data sets on a user interface display screen. The printing subsystem is disposed remotely of and communicates with both of the database and the client browser. The printing subsystem includes a marking engine and a copy of the program, the program copy receiving the at least one of the plurality of data sets for placing the same in a displayable format. An interface communicates with the program copy for converting the at least one of the plurality of data sets from the displayable format to a printable format, and a print buffer is employed to store the at least one of the plurality of data sets in the printable format in anticipation of producing a print therefrom.

A color electrophotographic printing machine, wherein an electrostatic latent image recorded on a photoconductive member is developed with toner of a first color and toner of a second color to form a visible image thereof, the electrophotographic printing machine including a system, for removing contaminates from toner of a first color and toner of a second color moving from a toner dispenser to a developer housing, the system including: a mounting assembly, a filter system mounted on the mounting assembly, the filter system having a screen for permitting toner of the first color to travel therethrough while inhibiting contaminants from traveling therethrough when vibrated; a first vibration driver, operatively connected to the screen, for vibrating the screen; a second filter system mounted on the mounting assembly, the filter system having a screen for permitting toner of the second color to travel therethrough while inhibiting contaminants from traveling therethrough when vibrated; and a second vibration driver being operatively connected to vibrate the screen, and coacting with the first vibration driver, for damping ocillation of the mounting assembly.

An apparatus for correcting color images in an electrophotographic printing machine in which a first image is developed on a photoconductive surface, the second and subsequent images are superimposed over the first developed image. The image processing unit includes an adaptive exposure processor that modulates the exposure level of a raster output scanner (ROS) for a given pixel as a function of toner previously developed at the pixel site, thereby allowing toner layers to be made independent of each other.

A development apparatus includes a housing defining a chamber holding a supply of two-component developer material consisting of toner, and magnetizable carrier beads. The development apparatus also includes an extended life, increased reliability magnetic roll assembly within the housing for repeatably transporting a desired quantity of attracted developer material, fed from the chamber, for movement through the development zone. The improved magnetic roll assembly includes a rotatable non-conductive shell or substrate surrounding a magnetic member so as to prevent the creation of eddy currents in the substrate during its rotation. The substrate has an elastomeric coating layer formed over it. The elastomeric coating layer has a mechanically deformable smooth surface for effectively holding, even at relatively high rates of speed, the quantity of attracted developer material thereon being transported. The smooth surface is deformable by magnetized carrier beads acting under the influence of the magnetic member.

A developer unit for developing a latent image recorded on an image receiving member with marking particles, to form a developed image. The unit includes a donor member spaced from the image receiving member and adapted to transport marking particles to a development zone adjacent the image receiving member and an electrode positioned in the development zone between the image receiving member and the donor member. The developer unit also includes a biaser for electrically biasing the electrode with an alternating current having a frequency varying with time, so as to minimize natural frequency resonant vibrations of the electrode and to detach marking particles from the donor member forming a cloud of marking particles in the development zone with detached marking particles from the cloud of marking particles developing the latent image.

A sheet transport system for automatically transporting sheets is provided. The system includes a primary path apparatus for feeding printed sheet images there, along a printing station to imprint sheets. The sheet transport system also provides an apparatus for transporting selected ones of the sheets along the path to a sheet path portion remote from the primary path and for returning selected ones of the sheets to the other fed sheets so that the combined sheets are arranged in a collated manner corresponding to the predetermined sequence. The system also includes, in the secondary or shunt path, a buffer for holding sheets previously passing through the printing station. The secondary path is arranged to permit selected return of ones of the sheets in the shunt path to the primary path. The system may also include a path for returning printed sheets in the primary path to the printing station. Thus, the sheet handling system provides for selective reordering of imaged sheets to promote improved printing operations.
