Common metadata exposure with digital images involves making image metadata types that are common across multiple image file formats accessible via an application programming interface (API). In an example embodiment, a browser exposes an image metadata API that may be called with reference to a preselected image metadata name. The browser determines an image metadata value that is associated with the preselected image metadata name from image metadata of a targeted image. When the image metadata value is returned to a caller of the image metadata API, the caller may consume or present the image metadata value in any manner.

Exposing common metadata in digital images

The identification of a data storage device detected on a touch-sensitive display surface of a display device is described. In one embodiment, the presence and location of the data storage device is detected on the display surface and the data storage device is detected on a wireless communications channel. It is then confirmed that the data storage device detected on the wireless communications channel is the data storage device detected on the surface of the display device by communicating with the data storage device over a second communications channel.

Identification of devices on touch-sensitive surface

A method and system for allowing a computer system platform the ability to intervene in the content workflow and perform additional color management based upon the content state and any color management policies in place is provided. Profile data from a source is converted to an intermediate color space upon entry into the platform at a choke point. In response to the current color content, profile data, and/or policy controls of the platform, color management input can be managed to change color management data immediately, change color management data at a later point, and/or ignore color management data.

A method for providing customized help, the method comprising: retrieving a first help content from a first help datastore in response to a help request received from a user, the first help datastore storing a plurality of help content each associated with a respective help identifier; retrieving a second help content from a second help datastore, the second help datastore storing a plurality of help content each associated with a respective help identifier, the second help content having the same help identifier as the first help content; generating a help presentation file comprising the first help content and the second help content; wherein one the first help datastore or the second help datastore is editable by the user and the other help datastore is non-editable by the user.

Customizing help content

A help system tracks user search queries and builds a database by matching the user query to the user's selected result from the search system. As the user repeatedly searches, the user's terminology may be associated with particular search keywords. A relevance factor may be computed using the database for future searches. In some cases, modifications to a user interface may be made by replacing the user's terminology with a function in the user interface, or by highlighting a user's terminology on the user interface using a floating box such as a tool tip.

Adaptive help system and user interface

An operating system (OS) includes a color adjuster that can map a color space to an adjusted color space that a user can discriminate. The color adjuster can map colors in the gaps of the user's discriminable color space to colors that the user can discriminate or, alternatively to cues. The OS can also include an assessor to determine whether a user would benefit from the use of an adjusted color space. The assessor can also receive color discrimination data associated with a user without having to perform an assessment (e.g., from a profile or 'passport' that includes data from a previous assessment performed on another computer or device). This data can be stored on removable media, a smart device, a node on a network, and then accessed by the assessor.

Integrating color discrimination assessment into operating system color selection

An improved system and method for an extensible codec architecture for digital images is provided. Executable software code may be operably coupled to a codec manager for requesting imaging operations to be performed on a digital image. The codec manager may receive the request to perform an imaging operation on the digital image and may select an imaging component, such as a codec, from one or more imaging components registered in the computer system for performing an imaging operation on the digital image. An arbitration manager may include functionality for requesting enumeration of the operations an imaging component may perform on a particular digital image. One or more pixel format converters may then convert the pixel format in the digital image to a pixel format supported by an imaging component installed on the system.

System and method for providing an extensible codec architecture for digital images

A method and system for reducing or eliminating artifacts that may occur during color reduction of images. A bias is added to a data structure that is arranged to store counts of pixel colors of an image. Counts of pixel colors of the image are added to the data structure. Via the data structure, colors from the image are grouped into buckets until the number of buckets is less than or equal to a number of colors in a palette. Then, colors of pixels in the image are mapped to colors in the palette.

Method and system for improving color reduction

A method and system are provided for allowing a user to manage captured images automatically. The method includes establishing a connection between a computing device and an image capturing device and defining a set of rules pertaining to an image using the computing device. The method additionally includes transferring captured images from the image capturing device to the computing device. The set of rules governs actions performed after acquisition of each image. In order to manage the captured images, the receiving computing device interprets the associated rules. The method additionally includes managing the captured image in accordance with the associated image rule. The system includes the tools necessary to execute the aforementioned method.
