An engine assembly may include an engine structure, a first camshaft housing assembly and a first camshaft assembly. The first camshaft housing assembly may be supported by the engine structure and have a first portion providing a first plurality of bearing support surfaces on a first side and a second portion coupled to the first portion and providing a second plurality of bearing support surfaces on a second side opposite the first side. The first camshaft assembly may be rotationally supported by the first camshaft housing assembly and arranged between the first portion and second portion.

A balancer assembly for an engine includes a first balance shaft and a second balance shaft parallel with and laterally spaced from the first balance shaft. The first balance shaft includes a first counterweight portion and a second counterweight portion axially spaced from each other, with each defining a first radius. The second balance shaft includes a central counterweight defining a second radius. The central counterweight is axially disposed between the first counterweight portion and the second counterweight portion to allow a radial overlap with the first counterweight portion and the second counterweight portion, with the first radius being greater than the second radius.

A pump impeller assembly comprises a pump journal, an impeller fixed to one end of the pump journal, and a pulley fixed to the other end of the pump journal. The pump impeller assembly further comprises a pump bearing including an outer race surrounding the pump journal with the pump journal being adapted to rotate with respect to the outer race. The pump impeller assembly includes a support plate fixed to the outer race and lying in a radial plane with respect to the pump journal. The support plate has a plurality of locking tabs adjoining its peripheral edge. The locking tabs are circumferentially spaced apart from one another with respect to the pump journal. The locking tabs are adapted to interlock with locking lugs formed on the inner surface of a pump housing wherein the locking lugs are adjacent to a pulley opening in the pump housing through which the pulley extends and are circumferentially spaced apart from one another with respect to the pulley opening. The locking tabs are adapted so that the interlocking enables secure attachment of the support plate to the pump housing.
