A system and related methods for configuring and monitoring a spraying application system for installation and use at a site that is remotely located from the spraying system manufacturing site. The system provides a remote access module that provides spraying system operation and parametric information to be monitored at the manufacturing site to determine how the spraying system is operating and whether repair or maintenance should be initiated. Timer circuits are provided for determining time of usage so that repair/replacement alerts can be issued. Safety related parameters may also be monitored as a backup to the primary monitoring performed at the customer's site. The system also provides an extranet or other suitable site available, for example, via the Internet or other communication link, is used to provide an accessible database for historical data and configuration/installation information. A call-in feature is also provided as well as a system query log.

Material application system with remote access

A powder coating control system comprising a plurality of gun controls associated with a like plurality of powder spray guns. Each of the gun controls stores a plurality of presets spray parameters. Each of the gun controls responds to part identification signals and part position signals to select in real time one of the stored presets of spray parameters and trigger its respective powder spray gun ON and OFF to apply a powder coating to the moving part in accordance with the selected set of spray parameters. The control system further permits a gun purge cycle to be programmed either before or after the powder coating process is executed. The control system automatically initializes and brings each of the gun controls to an operable state on-line with the system control.

Distributed control system for powder coating system

Parts to be treated in a powder spray coating system are identified by moving the parts relative to an array of sensors. A plurality of sensor readings is created by sensing the presence or absence of a portion of one of the parts proximate to each of the sensors for a plurality of incremental distances that the parts have moved relative to the sensors. The sensor readings are compressed according to a computational procedure to generate compressed data for each of the parts, the compressed data representing the sensor readings for all of the sensors during each incremental distance, and the compressed data representing the sensor readings for all of the incremental distances of each of the sensors. The compressed data is compared with corresponding data for an identified part to determine if the part matches the identified part. The system provides for more detailed parts identification than light curtains, but avoids the expense and memory requirements of sophisticated vision systems.
