A color television camera including a selectively removable infrared (IR) rejection filter and controllable weighting luminance signal matrixing circuitry features increased low-light sensitity. During low-light conditions, the infrared rejection filter is removed from the optical path of the camera, permitting infrared light to pass to the camera's imaging means; the weighting of the controllable weighting luminance signal matrixing circuitry is altered to provide a more accurate visual representation; and the color subcarrier signal is disabled so that the camera produces only a black-and-white signal.

A television camera includes a solid-state imager which forms a signal representative of an image during an integration interval. The integration interval is followed by a pull-down interval during which the integrated signal is transferred out of the photo-responsive region of the solid state imager. A first shutter is provided which periodically prevents light from falling upon the photo-responsive region of the imager during the pull-down interval. A second shutter in combination with the first shutter is controllable for limiting the light passage during the integration interval. With this shutter arrangement, the dynamic resolution of the camera is increased at the expense of image sensitivity. By the present invention, means are provided for precisely controlling the second shutter such that image sensitivity can be restored when desired.

A television camera having solid-state imagers has a motor-driven shutter disc for reducing highlight smear during the pull-down transfer interval. The shutter disc diameter is reduced to minimize stored energy and synchronization time. Because of the small shutter diameter, the drive motor is near the imagers. Low-level noise at the shutter rotational rate is coupled to the imagers, and is rendered visible because it is coherent with the field rate. The noise is reduced by means of an ungrounded conductive shield surrounding the motor. Noise is reduced by placing imager contributing the greatest luminance component furthest from the motor.

A shutter is provided which periodically prevents light from falling upon the photo-responsive region of the imager. The shutter is controllable for controlling the integration interval. Thus, by effectively adjusting the integration interval special effects such as 'true' stop motion may be provided from a television scene.
