A cardiac electrotherapy device is described having an electrode lead set () and an instruction placard () having a set of medical guidance instructions () integrated with the electrode lead wire (). The medical guidance instructions are printed on an elongated readable surface which is attached along its long edge to the electrode lead wire. The invention is particularly useful during cardiac emergencies involving pediatric or infant patients, whose medical dosage limits may be closely correlated with patient length.

An instrument is described for assisting a rescuer in the proper administration of CPR. A sensor detects movement of the chest caused by ventilation. The sensor signals are processed to produce a control signal representative of the effectiveness of the ventilation. A lung icon is displayed in the outline shape of human lungs and the outline is displayed filled to a level which indicates the effectiveness of the ventilation.

CPR assistance and effectiveness display

A CPR device includes a CPR meter which is placed on the sternum of a patient and against which chest compressions are applied during CPR. The chest compressions are sensed by the CPR meter and this information is supplied to a display device for the display of the progress of CPR. A graphical display is provided which graphically illustrates the progress of CPR during a current CPR interval in either elapsed time or chest compressions delivered, as compared with the total time of the CPR interval or the maximum number of chest compressions to be delivered. The display can be configured to display either elapsed time or chest compression count, and the total number of compressions to be applied and the total duration of the CPR interval can be selectively configured.

Apparatus and method for return notification for stand-alone equipment

This invention relates to an external defibrillator whose language of operation can be easily changed when the defibrillator is deployed for use. Defibrillators include, manual defibrillators, automatic or semi-automatic external defibrillators ('AEDs') and defibrillator trainers. In one embodiment, the invention provides a way to change the language in which the defibrillator delivers instructions to a user. Defibrillators of this invention would contain multiple languages in their memory. During the set-up of the defibrillator some or all of the languages could be designated as a language in which a prompt will be offered. Additionally, during set-up, one language will be designated as the default language. Once the defibrillator is deployed for use in an emergency, the operator will indicate a language preference for the defibrillator operating instructions. Once the user has indicated which language the prompts should be in, the defibrillator will then begin instructing the user in the use of the defibrillator in that language. Conversely, if the user fails to make any language preference indication, the defibrillator will begin instructing the user in the use of the defibrillator in the default language. In an alternate embodiment, the defibrillator issues each instruction in multiple languages.

A system and method for determining whether further efforts to resuscitate will be unsuccessful, is provided. One embodiment of the system comprises a memory that comprises a memory module. The memory module comprises a program that analyzes digital data that corresponds to a first parameter to determine whether the first parameter is valid; determines whether the first parameter is in a first futile range; and analyzes the first parameter to determine whether further efforts to resuscitate will be unsuccessful.

System and method for determining a condition of a patient

The present disclosure relates to a system and method for instructing a user as to how to treat a patient with a defibrillator. In use, electrocardiogram data of the patient is analyzed to determine whether a shockable condition exists. Normal heart function and asystole are distinguished where no shock is advisable, and the user is advised that the patient is in asystole where an asystole condition is detected. Through this method, the attending technician is notified not only that a shock is not advised, but whether the shock is not advised due to an asystole condition.

The present invention provides sensor generating measurement information based upon a patient parameter measured by the sensor and a processor managing local output of the measurement information according to automatically detected control signals locally and wirelessly transmitted from a transmitter entering a local area of the sensor from a remote area. The control signals include identification of a user and the transmitter travels with the user entering the local area of the sensor from a remote area so that the processor can manage local output of the measurement information according to stored preferences of the user. The processor can also control patient parameter measurements according to the preferences of the user.

A paddle for use with a defibrillator, the paddle being formed of an applicator attached to a pad portion. The applicator includes a flexible plate, a handle attached to a top of the flexible plate, and an applicator connector disposed on a bottom of the flexible plate. The pad portion is electrically connected to the applicator, and includes a flexible backing that is shaped by the flexible plate, a pad portion connector disposed on the flexible backing to form a connection to the applicator connector, a lid attached to the flexible backing, and an adhesive conductive medium attached to a bottom of the flexible backing and removably encased by the lid. An electrical contact is disposed on the lid and is electrically connected to the pad portion and is exposed while the conductive medium is removably encased by the lid.

A defibrillator includes circuitry configured to produce a defibrillatory shock and an audio/video output unit having a database of video image information stored in a memory, a video display, and a video formulation unit coupled to the memory and configured to retrieve video information from the database of video image information and present corresponding information to the video display for display. The video information may include still images, animated images, motion images or a combination of textual information and at least one of still images, animated images and motion images. The audio/video output unit may be configured to receive inputs relating to user inputs, patient signals and device inputs, and to provide video instructions, and optionally audio or textual instructions, relating to operation of the defibrillator based on the current operational state of the defibrillator.
