Embodiments provide an oil pan that includes an oil pan having a reservoir configured to hold oil and defined by one or more oil pan walls and an oil pan bottom. The oil pan includes one or more capacitance sensors coupled to a portion of the oil pan walls and configured to sense a capacitance. The oil pan includes a capacitance measuring unit electrically connected to the one or more sensors via one or more conductors and configured to receive each of the sensed capacitances via the one or more conductors and determine capacitance values for each of the sensed capacitances. The oil pan also includes a processor configured to receive the capacitance values and determine the oil level in the oil pan based on the capacitance values.

A redundant power system may include a first switch that connects between a redundant power source and a first remote system, a second switch that connects between the redundant power source and a second remote system, and a control circuit. The control circuit may apply a first control signal to the first switch to cause the redundant power source to connect through the first switch to the first remote system via a switched connection. The control circuit may determine if the second remote system requires power, and may apply a second control signal to the first switch to open the switched connection when the high priority remote system requires power. The control circuit may apply a third control signal to the second switch, upon an expiration of a delay timer, to cause the redundant power source to connect through the second switch to the second remote system.

In one implementation, the present invention enables a selective load shedding mechanism that intelligently discards packets to allow or facilitate management access during DoS attacks or other high traffic events. In one implementation, the present invention is directed to a selective load shedding mechanism that, while shedding load necessary to allow a network device to operate appropriately, does not attempt to control traffic flows, which allows for other processes to process, classify, diagnose and/or monitor network traffic during high traffic volume periods. In another implementation, the present invention provides a packet load shedding mechanism that reduces the consumption of system resources during periods of high network traffic volume.

In a mesh network communication system, net throughput is optimized on the link between the communicating nodes by dynamically modifying signal characteristics of the signals transmitted between nodes in response to performance metrics which have been determined from analysis at the receivers for the corresponding links. The signal characteristics can be the data rate, modulation type, on-air bandwidth, etc. The performance metrics are calculated based on data-link on-air characteristics of received signals.
