Solid lithium-ion ceramic electrolyte membranes have an average thickness of less than 200 micrometers. A constituent electrolyte material has an average grain size of less than 10 micrometers. The solid lithium-ion ceramic electrolyte is free-standing. Alternatively, solid lithium-ion electrolyte membranes have a composition represented by LiMM'M″(PO), where M is a 3ion, M′ is a 4ion, M″ is a 5ion, 0≤x≤2 and 0≤y≤2.

Reactive sintering of ceramic lithium-ion solid electrolytes

Apparatus and methods are disclosed which are capable of being used to determine filtration efficiency of a filter body even in a clean state. Methods of determining a filtration efficiency of a filter including forcing an inlet flow comprised of a gas (such as air) flow into the inlet end of the filter at a set flow rate, introducing particles such as smoke particles into the inlet flow, and optically counting the number of particles entering and exiting the filter during a sampling event, such as with diffraction based optical particle counters positioned upstream and downstream of the filter. Preferably the gas flow is a soot-free flow stream which does not load the honeycomb filter body with contaminants that need to be removed or burned out. The filter body can thus remain in an essentially clean state even after testing its filtration efficiency.

Offline measurement of honeycomb body filtration efficiency

An inorganic membrane filtration article and methods for making the same. The membrane filtration article includes a sintered flow-through ceramic honeycomb with a plurality of partition walls defining a plurality of open channels from an inlet end of the honeycomb to an outlet end of the honeycomb. The honeycomb is formed from a cordierite composition with low-sodium and/or low-potassium content for enhanced filtration performance.

Inorganic membrane filtration articles and methods thereof

Disclosed herein are filtration articles comprising a porous ceramic structure comprising a plurality of channels separated by a plurality of porous interior walls, and a nanomembrane disposed on at least a portion of a surface of the porous ceramic structure, wherein the nanomembrane comprises nanoparticles of at least one inorganic oxide, and wherein the nanoparticles are present in a concentration ranging from about 0.001 g/L to about 1 g/L based on the total volume of the porous ceramic structure. A method of producing bi-modal particles includes the steps of igniting a first precursor gas using a primary burner thereby producing a first plurality of particles of a first size, fluidly transporting the first plurality of particles down a particle tube, igniting a second precursor gas using a secondary burner thereby producing a second plurality of particles of a second size, flowing the second plurality of particles into the first plurality of particles, and capturing the first and second plurality of particles.

A method of forming a solid, dense, hermetic lithium-ion electrolyte membrane comprises combing an amorphous, glassy, or low melting temperature solid reactant with a refractory oxide reactant to form a mixture, casting the mixture to form a green body, and sintering the green body to form a solid membrane. The resulting electrolyte membranes can be incorporated into lithium-ion batteries.

A method of capturing soot includes the steps: combusting a first precursor in a burner to produce a soot stream, the soot stream comprising soot and exiting the burner at an outlet; and directing a capture medium to the soot stream, the capture medium contacting the soot in an impact region, the soot having a temperature greater than 50&#xb0; C. in the impact region.
