A system for locating remote objects and for directing users to remote objects, and for tracking remote objects such as eye glasses, watches, and the like, the system including an RFID transponder physically connected to the object, and RFID interrogator configured to interrogate the RFID transponder and receive a signal in response thereto, and a portable electronic device in electronic communication with the RFID interrogator and configured to process the received signal and determine a location of the object relative to the RFID interrogator and to provide information to a user regarding the location of the object.

System for locating remote objects

A dual-mode RFID tag and related system for storing, monitoring, and recovering data regarding an object, the system including a dual mode tag including a case, a UHF tag inside the case and structured to store at least a first portion data about the object, and an HF tag inside the case and to store at least a second portion of data about the object; the system further including a UHF reader to communicate with the UHF tag, an HF reader on a personal device to communicate with the HF tag, and a remote management system having a memory and a communication system that is communicatively coupleable to one or both of the HF reader and the UHF reader to receive a communication signal from one or both of the HF reader and the UHF tag and to store and modify data about the object in the remote management system, and to transmit data about the object to one or both of the UHF tag and the HF tag after determining the authorization of the HF reader user.

Dual mode RFID tag system

A detection system for use with an article, the system including a frangible fastener having a shaft structured to be attached to the article; and a radio frequency communication circuit formed on or in the fastener, the radio frequency communication circuit including an antenna formed on or in the article; and a resonator component formed on or in the fastener shaft and structured to be coupled to the antenna through inductance when the fastener is attached to the article and the antenna is energized, the resonator element further structured to fail to function when the fastener shaft is broken.

Detection system and device

Embodiments of the present invention include systems with Readers and Tags in which a Reader queries the Tags with a parameter that includes a level of probability of reply according to which the Tags individually and randomly decide whether or not to reply. In one embodiment, the Tags can switch between two states: A and B. The query command also specifies a state (A or B) so that only the Tags in the specified state can reply. After successfully sending the Tag identification data from a Tag to the Reader, the Tag switches to the other state from the specified state. In one embodiment, the operations about the two states are symmetric. In one embodiment, the Tags can remember the parameters used in a query so that a short form of query command can be used to repeat the query with the same query parameters.

Methods and apparatuses to identify devices

The circuitry introduced in this invention selectively slows down the functioning of an electronic circuit maintaining a particular state for a prolonged period of time. This circuitry is used not only to achieve the desired effect in maintaining security from electronic thieves trying to circumvent codes but also in other applications such as enabling a circuit to continue to function in the event of a brief loss of power. For example, in an RFID system, if a reader is frequency hopping, a tag loses power for as long as about 400 milliseconds when the reader changes to other frequencies. In a preferred embodiment, the disclosed circuitry is used in conjunction with a destruct sequence.

Integrated circuits with persistent data storage

Methods and apparatuses for configuring antennae of radio frequency identification reader systems. In one aspect of an embodiment, a radio frequency identification (RFID) reader system, includes: a receiver; a radio frequency (RF) source for signal transmission; and a switch matrix coupled with the receiver and the radio frequency sources to selectively couple the receiver and the radio frequency source to a plurality of non-collocated antennae. When in a first mode, the switch matrix connects the radio frequency source to a first one of the antennae for signal transmission and the receiver to a second one of the antennae for signal reception; and when in a second mode, the switch matrix connects the first one of the antennae for signal reception and, in one example, the second one or another one of the antennae to the RF source for signal transmission.

Multistatic antenna configuration for radio frequency identification (RFID) systems

A tag receives a first code transmitted by an RFID reader. The first code is compared with a second code stored within the tag. If the first code and the second code match, the tag transmits a third code to the RFID reader.

Methods and apparatuses for configuring antennae of radio frequency identification reader systems. In one aspect of an embodiment, a radio frequency identification (RFID) reader system, includes: a receiver; a radio frequency (RF) source for signal transmission; and a switch matrix coupled with the receiver and the radio frequency source to selectively couple the receiver and the radio frequency source to a plurality of non-collocated antennae. When in a first mode, the switch matrix connects the radio frequency source to a first one of the antennae for signal transmission and the receiver to a second one of the antennae for signal reception; and when in a second mode, the switch matrix connects the first one of the antennae for signal reception and, in one example, the second one or another one of the antennae to the RF source for signal transmission.

Methods and Apparatuses for RFID handshaking are provided. A first number is received by a reader from a tag. The first number is a random number. In response, a handshake command and a second number is transmitted to the tag by the reader. If the first number matches the second number, then handshaking is successful and tag data is received.

RFID handshaking

A method and apparatus for testing RFID straps. Arrays of RFID straps in a roll-to-roll process are coupled to an array of test elements. RF programming and interrogation signals are frequency and time multiplexed to the RFID array. Return signals are detected to determine sensitivity and programmability parameters of the RFID straps.

Method and apparatus for testing RFID devices

A system and method of inventorying multiple objects utilizing a multi-level or a chained radio frequency identification system. The system includes a master tag and a plurality of upper level tags and lower level tags associated with respective objects. The upper and lower level tags communicate with each other and the master tag so that reading of the master tag reveals the presence and absence of upper and lower level tags. In the chained RF system, the upper and lower level tags communicate locally with each other in a manner so that more remote tags that are out of range of some of the upper and lower level tags have their information relayed through adjacent tags to the master tag and thence to a controller.
