An end load carton includes a closure system having a tab constituting part of a control region which is spaced from a free edge of an upper flap of the carton by a support region. The control region also includes a press zone adjacent the tab. After initially opening a top portion of the carton by releasing an adhesive connection between the upper flap and a lower flap, the tab can be positioned in a slot formed in the lower flap to reclose the carton. More specifically, the upper and lower flaps can be selectively interconnected through the closure system by pushing on the press zone to depress the upper and lower flaps in order to open up the slot and align the tab with the slot. To reopen the carton, the support region can be readily grasped and pulled to open carton without fear of tearing the upper flap.

A canister for containing a particulate-type product such as a ready-to-eat cereal. The canister includes a side wall, a bottom closure and a plastic lid. The side wall defines at least a portion of a tubular body having an upper opening, a lower opening and an internal storage region for containing the particulate-type product. In this regard, the side wall includes a first, paper-based layer and a second, plastic-based layer. The first, paper-based layer has an inner surface and an outer surface. The second, plastic-based layer is bonded to the inner surface of the first, paper-based layer. The bottom closure is connected to the side wall so as to encompass the bottom opening. The plastic lid is openably secure to the tubular body at the upper opening. In this regard, the plastic lid provides selective access to the internal storage region. With this configuration, the plastic lid facilitates rapid fabrication of the canister, as well as providing for increased canister durability.

A canister for storing a particulate-type product. The canister includes a tubular body, a bottom panel, a top panel and a plurality of tabs. The tubular body defines an upper opening, a lower opening, and an internal storage region. The bottom panel is connected to the tubular body so as to encompass the lower opening. The top panel is similarly connected to the tubular body so as to encompass the upper opening and includes a lid. The lid is selectively secured to the tubular body at the upper opening such that the lid is moveable from an initial, closed state to an opened state, and from the opened state to a reclosed state. In the initial, closed state, the lid is secured to the tubular body. In the opened state, the lid is displaced from the tubular body to define a pour opening through which the internal storage region is accessible. In the reclosed state, the lid substantially encompasses the pour opening. Finally, the plurality of tabs are associated with the lid in at least the reclosed state. In one preferred embodiment, tab formation is completed as the lid is forced from the initial, closed state, and the tabs assist in frictionally securing the lid to the tubular body in the reclosed state.

Canister for a particulate-type product

A canister for containing a particulate-type product. The canister includes opposing face panels, opposing side panels, a bottom closure, a top closure and a seal membrane. The opposing side panels together with the opposing face panels define an upper opening and a lower opening. The bottom closure is connected to the opposing face panels so as to encompass the lower opening. The opposing face panels, the opposing side panels and the bottom closure combine to define an internal storage region. The seal membrane is secured to the top closure, and then the top closure/seal membrane combination is connected to the opposing face panels so as to encompass the upper opening. The seal membrane insures the freshness of the particulate-type product. The top closure includes a movable lid member that provides selective access to the internal storage region. Upon initial opening of the lid member, first portion of the seal membrane delaminates from a remaining air-tight seal portion of the seal membrane. The remaining seal portion includes perforations that allow a consumer to remove this portion to gain access to the particulate-type product. In one preferred embodiment, the canister is configured to store a food product, for example a ready-to-eat cereal.

The opposing side panels together with the opposing face panels define an upper opening and a lower opening. In addition, the seal membrane is configured to provide selective access to the internal storage region and thereby the particulate-type product. In one preferred embodiment, the canister is configured to store a food product, for example a ready-to-eat cereal.

A canister for containing a particulate-type product. The canister includes opposing face panels, opposing side panels, a top closure and a bottom closure. The opposing side panels are connected to the opposing face panels to define an upper opening and a lower opening. Further, at least one of the opposing side panels or the opposing face panels includes a first paper-based layer, a second paper-based layer and an adhesive. Each of the first and second layers has an inner surface and an outer surface. The adhesive bonds the inner surface of the first layer to the outer surface of the second layer. The top closure is connected to the opposing face panels and the opposing side panels so as to encompass the upper opening. Finally, the bottom closure is connected to the opposing face and the opposing side panels so as to encompass the lower opening. Upon final assembly, the panels combine to define an internal storage region for containing the particulate-type product.

A canister for containing a particulate-type product. The canister includes at least one side wall, a top closure and a bottom closure. The side wall defines at least a portion of an internal storage region having an upper opening and a lower opening. The side wall includes a first paper-based layer, a second layer and an adhesive. The first layer includes a main body portion and a premium. The body portion and the premium are integrally formed such that the premium is selectively detachable from the body portion. The body portion and the premium each define an inner surface and an outer surface. The second layer has an inner surface and an outer surface. The adhesive bonds the inner surface of the body portion to the outer surface of the second layer, but does not impede detachment of the premium from the body portion. The top closure is connected to the side wall to encompass the upper opening. The bottom closure is connected to the side wall so as to encompass the lower opening. With this configuration, the second layer maintains a structural integrity of the canister upon detachment of the premium.

A canister for containing a particulate-type product. The canister includes a canister body and a plurality of microholes formed in the canister body. Other than the plurality of microholes, the canister body is hermetically sealed. In this regard, the canister body defines an internal storage region configured to contain a particulate-type product. The plurality of microholes are sized to allow passage of air from the internal storage region, as well as to limit passage of the particulate-type product. During use, a decrease in atmospheric pressure applied to the canister, such as during shipping, results in air being vented from the internal storage region via the plurality of microholes. Due to this air flow, an internal pressure of the canister body maintains substantial equilibrium with atmospheric pressure such that the canister body will not expand.

A light-activated, sound-providing device (22) is secured to the upper surface of a mounting board (12) by a film formed of translucent material (26) thereby sealing the sound-providing device (22) therebetween. The sound-providing device (22) is mounted spaced from the longitudinal end of the mounting board (12) which is inserted between the bag (38) and the package (16) so that the sound-providing device (22) is positioned adjacent the top of the bag (38). In a preferred form, the sound-providing device (22) is not activated while in the interior of a closed package (16) but when the package (16) is opened, the sound-providing device (22) is activated providing a sound for prize announcement, attention getting, or a similar function. A removable, opaque label (34) is positioned on the translucent material (26) over the sound-providing device (22) to prevent light from activating the sound-providing device (22) during handling and manipulation of the sound-providing assembly (10) and in the preferred form is removed prior to its placement and sealing in the package (16).
