An example method may include determining a first planned stimulation location within the formation. The first planned stimulation location may be based, at least in part, on a pre-determined model of a formation. A borehole in the formation may be drilled with a downhole tool. The first planned stimulation location may be adjusted based, at least in part, on data received at the downhole tool. Additionally, the downhole tool may stimulate the formation at the adjusted first planned stimulation location. A second stimulation location also may be determined based on data received at the downhole tool after stimulation of the formation at the adjusted first planned stimulation location.

Systems and methods for optimized well creation in a shale formation

A system and method for controllably separating a conduit into an upper portion and a lower portion. The system includes a first valve in the upper portion of the conduit above a point of separation, and a second valve in the lower portion of the conduit below the point of separation. When the conduit is separated, the valves are actuated to cease flow therethrough and prevent loss of fluids into the seawater. A hang-off tool in the lower portion of the conduit engages the well and supports the lower portion of the conduit.

System and method for fail-safe disconnect from a subsea well

A downhole tool for early formation evaluation is disclosed. The tool comprising a housing having a fluid passageway and a mandrel having an interior volume. The mandrel is slidably disposed within the housing and has a plurality of axial positions relative to the housing. The mandrel is slidably operated responsive to the fluid pressure within the interior volume such that the mandrel cycles through said plurality of positions. A retractor sleeve is operably associated with the housing and the mandrel for engaging the mandrel and slidably urging the mandrel relative to the housing. The retractor sleeve is slidably operated responsive to the fluid pressure within the interior volume. A seal assembly is slidably disposed around the housing. The seal assembly includes a floating piston. A chamber is formed between the housing and the floating piston that is in communication with the fluid passageway of the housing such that the fluid pressure within the interior volume enters the chamber and slidably urges the seal assembly, thereby stretching the seal assembly.

Formation evaluation tool and method for use of the same

An early evaluation system with pump for servicing a well and taking fluid samples and measurements. In each of the embodiments, a formation pump is actuated to flow fluid from the well formation below a packer element engaged with the borehole into a sampling tube. Fluid samplers and recording instruments may be in communication with the sampling tube. In one embodiment, the pump is mechanically actuated by rotation of the tool string. In another embodiment, the pump is hydraulically actuated and has a hydraulic motor connected thereto. In this hydraulically acutated embodiment, fluid pumped down the tool string actuates the hydraulic motor and thereby further actuates the pump. Other pump embodiments are also disclosed. In still another embodiment, the apparatus may be incorporated into a drill string so that a drilling operation may be carried out and immediately followed by a fluid evaluation operation. In this latter embodiment, circulating valves disposed in the apparatus allow fluid to be pumped downwardly through the drill bit when in a first position and then allow fluid samples to be taken by actuation of the pump when in a second position after the packer elements are engaged. Methods of drilling and servicing a well and conducting a bubble point determination utilizing the apparatus are also disclosed.

Early evaluation system with pump and method of servicing a well

An annulus pressure responsive tool of the type which contains lateral circulation ports and a ball valve, each operable between open and closed positions to configure the tool into different modes of operation. These modes include a well test position in which the ball valve is open and the circulation ports are closed, a blank position in which the ball valve and circulation ports are both closed, and a circulating position in which the ball valve is closed and the circulating ports are open. Through manipulation of annulus pressure, the tool mode can be changed during the annulus pressure release to move out of the well test position and into the blank and circulating positions. An operating mandrel assembly is slidably disposed within the exterior housing of the tool and its movement dictates the positions of both the circulation ports and the ball valve. The operating mandrel is moveable by means of an annulus pressure conducting channel which is capable of receiving:, storing and releasing annulus pressure increases. A ratchet assembly associates the operating mandrel assembly and housing and functions as an overrideable position controller to dictate response of the operating mandrel assembly to annulus pressure changes.
