A fuel system includes a fuel injector having an inlet conduit extending along an axis, a nozzle opening, and a valve needle which is moveable to selectively permit and prevent flow of fuel from the inlet conduit through the nozzle opening. The inlet conduit has a seal support flange which provides a seal support shoulder which is traverse to the axis. A fuel rail assembly includes a fuel rail having a main fuel passage which receives fuel from a fuel source and a socket having a socket bore extending thereinto from a socket open end such that the socket bore is in fluid communication with the main fuel passage and such that the inlet conduit is received within the socket. A sealing ring which is metallic circumferentially surrounds the inlet conduit within the socket bore such that the sealing ring is compressed between the socket bore and the inlet conduit.

A fuel rail assembly includes a fuel rail having a main conduit with a main fuel passage and a distribution conduit extending away from the main conduit and having a distribution passage extending therethrough which is in fluid communication with the main fuel passage, the distribution conduit having a distribution conduit primary threaded section, a distribution conduit secondary threaded section, and a distribution conduit sealing surface located axially between the distribution conduit primary threaded section and the distribution conduit secondary threaded section. A primary sealing nut threadably engages the distribution conduit secondary threaded section and a secondary sealing nut threadably engages the distribution conduit secondary threaded section. A sealing ring is located within a counterbore of the primary sealing nut or the secondary sealing nut such that the sealing ring circumferentially and sealingly surrounds the distribution conduit sealing surface and a sealing engages a sealing surface of the counterbore.

Fuel rail assembly providing connection to a fuel injector

A fuel line assembly includes a fuel line having has an inner surface and an outer surface joined to each other by a fuel line aperture. A fuel injector socket has at one end a fixation saddle which is concave within which the fuel line is received such that the fixation saddle has a concave surface facing toward the fuel line. A fuel injector socket receiving bore extends into another end of the fuel injector socket to receive a fuel injector therewithin. A fuel injector socket aperture extends from the concave surface to the fuel injector socket receiving bore. An alignment tube provides fluid communication between the inner surface and the fuel injector socket receiving bore, wherein a portion of the alignment tube is circumferentially surrounded by the fuel line aperture and wherein another portion of the alignment tube is circumferentially surrounded by the fuel injector socket aperture.

Fuel line assembly having a fuel line and a fuel injector socket

A system for removal of HS from sulfur-containing reformate comprising a permanent canister assembly having fittings for flow of reformate therethrough and a replaceable cartridge assembly containing an HS adsorber element and fittings for convenient, simple, and reliable mating and sealing with the permanent canister assembly. The cartridge assembly comprises a housing that may be optionally a full cylinder or a semi-cylinder. The cartridge assembly may be easily reloaded off-line for re-use of the cartridge components with a fresh adsorber element. Preferably, the adsorber element is also renewable off-line for re-use.

Cartridge adsorber system for removing hydrogen sulfide from reformate

In a modular fuel cell cassette for forming a fuel cell stack, anode openings in the mounting plate and separator plate are separated and connected by modular spacer rings such that the cassette is incompressible at operating temperatures and compressive loads within the stack. The spacer rings are formed in modules wherein all of the rings required for all of the anode supply chimneys or all of the anode exhaust chimneys of any given cassette are ganged together and include a perimeter rail to which the rings are connected which automatically orients and positions the rings within the cassette during assembly thereof. The present invention eliminates the prior art need for individually positioning and spot welding each prior art ring in place prior to assembly of a prior art cassette. Two different structural embodiments for a spacer ring module are disclosed.

Modular fuel cell cassette spacers for forming a solid-oxide fuel cell stack

A vane-type throttle valve assembly including a body having a passage therethrough and a pivotable shaft transverse of the passage and supporting a vane for variably restricting the flow of material through the passage. The shaft is disposed in opposing bores in the valve body. Each bore includes an access slot. The valve is assembled by inserting an integrated shaft and vane into the passage, engaging the ends of the shaft into the access slots, and translating the shaft ends in the access slots until the ends of the shaft are positioned in the bores. The shaft is retained in the bores by bushings inserted from outside the valve body. In a currently preferred embodiment, the access slots are formed over an angle from an axis of the bores, and the shaft ends are entered into the bores by rotating the shaft and vane about the passage axis.

Method and apparatus for assembling a vane-type valve

In a preferred embodiment, an engine coolant crossover assembly includes a crossover conduit member carrying an integral liquid cooled alternator and liquid cooled exhaust gas recirculation valve. The integration of one or both of these parts into the coolant crossover eliminates many parts from the total assembly. These parts include; attachment brackets, coolant hoses, hose clamps, cast mounting blocks, coolant tubes and attachment bolts. Reduction of these parts reduces system costs, assembly time, mass and potential coolant leak paths. A temperature sensor and a thermostat housing may also be included in the crossover assembly. The assembly may also be made part of an intake manifold for an integrated air fuel module of a V-type engine.

A fuel rail permeant collection system includes a substantially impermeable enclosure surrounding a fuel rail on an internal combustion engine. Preferably, the enclosure is in communication with air intake means for the engine, for example, the intake manifold or runners from the manifold to the engine cylinders, such that fuel collected by the enclosure can be evaporated and passed into the intake means for combustion by the engine. The system may be included in a vehicle vapor purge circuit from a fuel tank emissions-control canister system.

The module ( ) provides a reduced number of potential external hydrocarbon leak and permeation paths to the surrounding atmosphere. Preferred geometries of the intake manifold ( ) in the module ( ) with the internal integration of other normally external systems, such as fuel injection ( ) and positive crankcase ventilation ( ) systems, accomplish the containment of evaporative emissions within or entering the air fuel module ( ) between engine operating periods when the engine is shut down.

A fuel injector includes a body having a nozzle end and a connector end. The body defines a side feed opening disposed between said nozzle end and said connector end. An injection assembly is disposed in the nozzle end and includes an actuating coil, a value actuated by the coil, and a valve seat operably associated with the valve.

Side feed fuel injector and integrated fuel rail/intake manifold

An integrated fuel delivery module for a fuel injected engine includes a fuel rail having a fuel distribution channel and a plurality of spaced-apart fuel injector sockets connected with the fuel distribution channel. A high-pressure fuel pump has a high-pressure chamber connected internally to the fuel distribution channel without external high-pressure fuel lines.

Fuel delivery module for fuel injected internal combustion engines

A fuel delivery module integrates a fuel rail, with its associated connections, features and components, with the injectors for one bank of a direct injection engine. When the module is secured to the engine, loading springs between the inlet ends of the injectors and abutments in the mounting recesses accommodate variations in manufacturing and assembly tolerances to provide adequate but not excessive loading of the injectors against associated seats of the engine. Manufacturing and assembly costs are reduced by the use a module with injectors pre-installed. Also, the module may be pretested in a suitable test fixture prior to installation to assure proper flow and spray development from each of the injectors. The module may integrate other components also, such as intake air passages, EGR passages and coolant passages and their associated components. Various examples of injector loading springs are described.

Integrated fuel delivery module for direct injection

An intake manifold assembly includes an improved air intake manifold receiving novel side feed fuel injectors. A fuel rail is integrated as a common part defining a common fuel passage integral with the air intake manifold. The common fuel passage supplies the side feed fuel injectors through openings that are spaced away from the injector nozzles toward an opposite connector end of each injector. The injector design concentrates an actuating coil, armature and nozzle valve in a lower or nozzle end of the injector. The fuel is fed from the side feed opening through an axially centered fuel passage that extends through the coil and the associated armature to the injection valve in a manner identical to corresponding top feed injectors. Thus, the performance advantages of top feed injection systems are provided while gaining the reduction in cost attributable to elimination of the separate fuel rail and subassembly. Various arrangements are disclosed for retaining the injectors in the manifold assembly.

A fuel rail has a high pressure inlet and a low pressure outlet. The high pressure inlet feeds pressurized fuel to a plurality of injectors along the fuel rail. A fuel return line, which is connected with the low pressure outlet, is positioned substantially centrally of and coaxial with the fuel rail. The fuel return line is non-circular in configuration having a width to height ratio greater than one. The configuration of the return fuel line and the flexibility of the walls thereof provide a damper that reduces the pressure pulsations in the high pressure fuel.
