A latch communications method and system are disclosed herein, which generally includes a communications receiver and transmitter unit associated with a latch. Additionally, an interface component is provided for interfacing with the communications receiver and transmitter unit, wherein the interface component is co-located with the communications receiver and transmitter unit in association with the latch. Also, an interpreter is associated with the interface component and the communications and transmitter unit, wherein the interpreter processes information received from the communications receiver and transmitter unit in order to provide latch diagnostics and functionalities.

Embedded automotive latch communications protocol

Diagnostic data associated with a latch can be generated in response to automatically analyzing the latch. A graphical user interface is provided for graphically displaying the diagnostic data within a display area thereof. Additionally, a communications link between the graphical user interface and the latch can be implemented over which latch operational and functionality feedback information is communicated to the latch, in response to user input provided to the graphical user interface. The latch can be automatically analyzed in response to user input provided through the graphical user interface. Additionally, the latch can be automatically analyzed during latch operations thereof.

Automotive latch debug and diagnostic user interface

Latch control methods and systems are disclosed, including a latch that receives power from a motor associated with a latch. A sensor can be provided for monitoring the current consumption of the motor. A microcontroller can control the latch and/or the motor, based on the current consumption data received from the sensor concerning the current consumption of the motor. Monitoring of the current waveform of the motor therefore provides speed and direction feedback data for control of the latch. Additionally, a microprocessor can process instructions for controlling the interaction of the motor, the latch, the sensor and/or the microcontroller. Such a current monitoring control system is made possible by variation in current consumption of the motor during rotation as a result of commutation, which can be interrogated by measuring the voltage drop across the motor or a shunt resistor, or through the use of other current sensors, such as, for example, a Hall-effect type current sensor.

Automotive door latch control by motor current monitoring

Latch control methods and systems include a latch that receives power from a motor associated with an H-bridge circuit. A sensor can be provided for monitoring the latch, wherein the sensor obtains latch feedback data from the latch. A microcontroller controls the latch based on the latch feedback data, by controlling an interaction of the H-bridge circuit and the motor with the latch. Additionally, a microprocessor processes instructions for controlling the interaction of the H-bridge circuit and the motor with the latch. Such instructions can be implemented as Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) control instructions.

Automotive universal latch control implementation

A door position sensing system includes a door claw having first and second magnets mounted thereon, and a Hall sensor mounted so as to sense the magnetic fields of the first and second magnets. The first magnet is mounted in a door half-latch position, and the second magnet is mounted in a door full-latch position. A processor is responsive to the Hall sensor to provide outputs indicating the half-latch and full-latch positions of a door. The processor may also be arranged to indicate a door open position when neither magnet is near the sensor.

Methods and systems of utilizing a ring magnet for magnetic sensing applications thereof are disclosed. A magnetoresistive sensor device can be provided which is associated with a ring magnet configured as a sensing target. The magnetoresistive sensor device is insensitive to magnetic pole polarities. The ring magnet is generally magnetized to include a plurality of magnetic poles, such that at least one pole thereof is larger than at least one other pole thereof. An output signal can then be produced from the magnetoresistive sensor device via a digital circuit thereof. The output signal is independent of a rotation of the sensing target. The sensor itself is rotationally insensitive provided that the ring magnet is symmetrically magnetized.

Methods and systems for utilizing a ring magnet for magnetic sensing applications

A calibrated, low-profile magnetic sensor and method for forming such a sensor are described herein. Generally, a magnetic sensing device is formed within a housing, wherein the magnetic sensing device comprises at least one magnet. The magnetic sensor includes a compact integrated circuit package such as, for example, a small outline integrated circuit package (SOIC). A magnetic sensing element is generally mounted to the compact integrated circuit package. The magnetic sensing device can be configured to additionally incorporate a printed circuit board (PCB) having a hole formed therein such that the compact integrated circuit package can be surface mounted off-center on the printed circuit board, so that the hole can be located within the printed circuit board to match a shape of the magnet, allowing the magnet to pass through the circuit board adjacent to the SOIC to complete the magnetic circuit. An orifice placed with in the housing permits a tool to be passed through the orifice within the housing to contact the magnet. The magnet can be placed in the optimum position for calibration of the magnetic circuit thereof. The same orifice that is used for calibrating the position of the magnet can also be utilized as an injection port for encapsulating the device using an injection epoxy dispensing process.

Calibrated, low-profile magnetic sensor

A method and apparatus for sensing the speed and direction of a rotating target is disclosed. A first differential Hall package can be generally located opposite to a second differential Hall package, wherein the first differential Hall package and second differential Hall package comprise mirror images of one another. A first output signal can then be generated by the first differential Hall package and a second output signal by the second differential Hall package during a rotation of the rotating target. The first Hall output signal can thus be compared to the second Hall output signal during a shift of the rotating target from a sinusoidal phase to a non-sinusoidal phase thereof, thereby permitting accurate phase information indicative of the speed and direction of the rotating target to be obtained.
