A seal is adapted to be received in an annular groove in a first member and is compressed against a groove bottom by a second member that defines a gap between the first and second members. The seal includes a reinforcement member and an elastomer body over-molded on the reinforcement member. The reinforcement member is disposed on an outboard side of the elastomer body and the elastomer body extends both above and below the reinforcement member. The compression of the seal causes the elastomer body to deform such that the reinforcement member provides a reinforcement substantially along the entire gap to prevent the elastomer body of the seal from being extruded through the gap.

Seal for pressurized fluid and open interface gap

A sealed t-joint includes a first component having a first sealing surface, a second component having a second sealing surface, and a third component including a channel characterized by a channel height, channel width, and a channel depth. The t-joint also includes a gasket having a thickness and a protrusion characterized by a protrusion height, a protrusion width, and a protrusion depth. The protrusion height is less than the channel height, the protrusion width is less than channel width, and the protrusion depth is less than the channel depth. The t-joint additionally includes a polymer sealant. The gasket is compressed between the first and second sealing surfaces to generate a first and second component sub-assembly. Additionally, the polymer sealant is applied into the channel. The third component is subsequently assembled with the first and second component sub-assembly such that the protrusion extends into the channel to seal the t-joint.

Sealed t-joint assembly

A gasket loop includes a gasket shape with a first portion characterized by a cross-sectional view. The first portion in the cross-sectional view includes a substantially elongated body characterized by a height, a first end characterized by a height, a tip, a width enlarged relative to the body, and a tapered backside. The tapered backside is integral with the body. The first portion in the cross-sectional view additionally includes a distal second end connected to the body. A fluid-pressure joint assembly and a method of sealing such a joint via the gasket loop are also disclosed.

Gasket for a pressurized fluid interface

An engine assembly comprising a cylinder head, turbocharger in fluid communication with the cylinder head and exhaust conduit in fluid communication with the turbocharger and method of making the assembly using a single human assembler includes: mounting the turbine to the cylinder head; using a first assembly aid to form a slidable joint between the exhaust conduit and head; using a second assembly aid to form a movable joint between the turbine and exhaust conduit and align the turbine outlet flange and exhaust conduit inlet flange; using a third assembly aid to pilotingly engage the flanges; disposing a clamp about the turbine outlet flange and the exhaust conduit inlet flange; tightening the second assembly aid sufficiently to form an immovable joint; tightening the clamp to form a sealed joint between the flanges; and tightening the first assembly aid to form a fixed joint.

Engine assembly and method of making

An engine comprises a cylinder head at least partially defining a dry valley and a cover secured to the cylinder head. The cover defines a first aperture. A boss extends from the cylinder head toward the cover. The boss defines a second aperture. A fastener extends through the first aperture and at least partially through the second aperture to secure the cover to the cylinder head. The fastener defines a passage to fluidly connect the dry valley to an exterior of the engine.
