An alkylaromatic sulfonate is disclosed wherein the alkyl group contains a distribution of alkyl chain lengths which comprise greater than 15 weight percent and up to about 35 weight percent of Cto C. Also disclosed is a process for preparing an alkylaromatic sulfonate and its use in recovering crude oil from a subterranean hydrocarbon containing formation.

Alkylaromatic sulfonates for enhanced oil recovery process

Disclosed is a liquid crude hydrocarbon composition containing (a) a liquid crude hydrocarbon having an API gravity of less than or equal to about 20; and (b) a minor amount of a blend comprising (i) one or more hydrocarbon-containing solvents having an aromatic content of at least about 10 wt. %; and (ii) one or more asphaltene modifiers selected from the group consisting of an aromatic sulfonic acid or salt thereof, an aliphatic sulfonic acid or salt thereof and an alkyl-substituted hydroxyaromatic carboxylic acid or salt thereof. Also disclosed is a method for transporting a liquid crude hydrocarbon having an API gravity of less than or equal to about 20.

A carboxylate detergent prepared by the process comprising (a) alkylating a hydroxyaromatic compound with at least one normal alpha olefin having from about 12 to about 30 carbon atoms per molecule that has been isomerized to obtain an isomerized alpha olefin having 15-98 wt % branching and a residual alpha olefin content of between from about 0.1 to about 30 wt %, thereby producing an alkylated hydroxyaromatic compound; (b) neutralizing the resulting alkylated hydroxyaromatic compound with an alkali metal base; (c) carbonating the alkali metal salt from step (b) with carbon dioxide; (d) acidifying the salt produced in step (c); and (e) overbasing the resulting alkylated hydroxyaromatic carboxylic acid.

Low temperature performance lubricating oil detergents and method of making the same

Disclosed herein is a neutral or overbased salt of a sulfurized alkylhydroxyaromatic compound obtained by the process comprising the steps of (a) sulfurizing an alkylhydroxyaromatic compound derived from alkylation of a hydroxyaromatic compound with one or more olefins comprising Cto Coligomers of monomers selected from propylene, butylene or mixtures thereof to provide a sulfurized alkylhydroxyaromatic reaction product; (b) removing any unsulfurized alkylhydroxyaromatic compound from the sulfurized alkylhydroxyaromatic reaction product of step (a) to obtain a sulfurized alkylhydroxyaromatic compound substantially free of the unsulfurized alkylhydroxyaromatic compound; and (c) neutralizing the sulfurized alkylhydroxyaromatic compound of step (b) to provide a salt of the sulfurized alkylhydroxyaromatic compound, wherein the overbased salt of the sulfurized alkylhydroxyaromatic compound contains less than about 2% by combined mass of the unsulfurized alkylhydroxyaromatic compound and its unsulfurized metal salt.

Disclosed is a method for improving filtration in the preparation of an alkaline earth metal alkyltoluene sulfonate concentrate by selectively controlling the meta, ortho, para isomer distribution of the alkyl group of the alkyltoluene produced by the process comprising alkylating toluene with at least one isomerized normal alpha olefin, having from about 18 to about 30 carbon atoms and having from 20% to 100% branching in an alkylation process which includes monitoring % isomer formation and adjusting an alkylation process parameter in order to provide a target specified isomer content of less than 38% meta-isomer content; and thereafter sulfonating and neutralizing to produce a low base number sulfonated alkyltoluene concentrate having a Base Number of about 2 to 60 (ASTM D 2896).

The present invention is directed to novel alkylated aromatic compositions, zeolite catalyst compositions and processes for making the same. The catalyst compositions comprise zeolite Y and mordenite zeolite having a controlled macropore structure. The present invention is also directed to the preparation of the catalyst compositions and their use in the preparation of novel alkylated aromatic compositions. The catalyst compositions of the present invention exhibit reduced deactivation rates during the alkylation process, thereby increasing the life of the catalysts.

The present invention is directed to a zeolite Y catalyst having a controlled macropore structure. The present invention is also directed to a zeolite Y catalyst composite and a process for preparing the catalyst composite. The present invention is directed to a method for enhancing the recovery of oil from a subterranean reservoir which method employs an alkylxylene sulfonate that contains a high percentage of the 4-alkyl-1,2-dimethyl benzene isomer and a high percentage of alkyl group attachment to the xylene ring at positions higher than the 2-position on the alkyl carbon chain in an aqueous media, since it has surprisingly been discovered that the high percentage of the 4-alkyl-1,2-dimethyl benzene isomer and the high percentage alkyl group attachment to the xylene moiety at positions higher than the 2-position along the alkyl carbon chain on the alkylxylene sulfonate provides an enhanced oil recovery surfactant having low Interfacial Tension. The method optionally employs co-surfactants.
