A polymer bonded electrode composite composed of a polymer matrix having electrochemically active particulate therein and having a porous conductive sheet encapsulated within the matrix is disclosed. Further, a continuous process of forming the electrode composite by extrusion using a cross-head die is also disclosed.

The method of the invention for co-reactive slot die extrusion coating of elongated tubular articles, such as pipes, comprises the steps of extruding a two-component thermosetting material through a slot die that is comprised of low friction material and so configured as to permit the slot die to be rapidly opened for purposes of peeling gelled material from the die by hand. The method provides for substantially increased coverage rates and the use of interchangeable and reusable slot dies. In a preferred method, the extrusion step campuses the use of a slot die comprised of two blocks comprised of an acetal resin, and the blocks are clamped together and can be quickly unclamped to permit convenient removal of gelled thermoset material.

A polyol is reacted with a polyisocyanate prepolymer to make a polyurethane. The polyol is the reaction product of trimethylol propane with ethylene oxide (1:3 molar). The polyisocyanate prepolymer is the reaction product of poly(ethylene adipate) with MDI. The novel polyurethane is stable in both aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons and is especially useful in bonding together laminates of nylon-supported permeable membranes. The laminates are used in modules for separation of hydrocarbon-containing gases.

Interpenetrating network polymers (IPN's) are made by admixing polyols, polyisocyanate, and a poly(vinylchloride) plastisol, followed by heating to complete the cure. The resulting polyurethane/poly(vinylchloride) IPN has superior properties as sealant, especially for automotive parts.

The component polyol/polyisocyanate composition useful in forming an abrasion resistant polyurethane automotive undercoating. The polyol component is unmodified castor oil or castor oil modified with cyclohexanone-formaldehyde condensate. The modified castor oil may be further modified by adding the reaction product of neopentyl glycol and adipic acid. The polyisocyanate component comprises an MDI-based mixture containing polyisocyanate prepolymers based on alkylene oxides.

This invention relates to a moisture curable, isocyanate terminated, branched prepolymer which is the reaction product of (a) an alcohol having two or three --OH groups, (b) a hydrophobic polymeric diol or triol and (c) at least one polyisocyanate, said prepolymer having an NCO content in the range 0.3 to 1.0 meq/q. Exposure of the prepolymer as a coating on a substrate to moisture under atmospheric conditions results in a cured coating having excellent adhesion to the substrate and excellent abrasion resistance.
