Systems, methods, and devices for improved routing operations in a network computing environment. A system includes a virtual customer edge router and a host routed overlay comprising a plurality of host virtual machines. The system includes a routed uplink from the virtual customer edge router to one or more of the plurality of leaf nodes. The system is such that the virtual customer edge router is configured to provide localized integrated routing and bridging (IRB) service for the plurality of host virtual machines of the host routed overlay.

Systems, methods, and devices for improved routing operations in a network computing environment. A system includes a virtual customer edge router and a host routed overlay comprising a plurality of host virtual machines. The system includes a routed uplink from the virtual customer edge router to one or more of the plurality of leaf nodes. The system is such that the virtual customer edge router is configured to provide localized integrated routing and bridging (TRB) service for the plurality of host virtual machines of the host routed overlay.

Embodiments of the invention include methods for handling packets in a communications network. In one embodiment, a method is implemented in an electronic device. The method includes at a first end of a queue in the electronic device, determining admission of a first packet to the first end of the queue based on a length of the first packet, where when the admission of the first packet would cause the queue to become full, the admission is further based on a packet value of the first packet and a data structure tracking packet value distribution of packets in the queue. The method further includes at a second end of the queue, dropping a second packet from the second end of the queue when the second packet's corresponding packet value is marked as to be dropped in the data structure upon admitting packets to the first end of the queue.

Packet value based packet processing

The invention relates to a method for controlling a transmission buffer in a transmission node of a transmission network transmitting data packets of a data packet flow, wherein each data packet includes a delay value indicating a transmission delay requirement of the data packet and a packet value indicating a level of importance of the data packet. The buffer includes different buffer regions and an arriving data packet is put into its respective buffer region based on the delay requirement indicated by a delay value contained in the data packet. The number of bytes waiting before the freshly arrived data packet cannot increase so that the delay requirement is met and possibly other packets in the buffer might be dropped for the newly arriving packet.

Delay-aware resource sharing

There are provided a scalable method for mobility management applied to an IP-based network system including a plurality of routers and a plurality of servers, a part of which serve as a home routing manager (HRM), a part of which serve as local routing managers (LRM) for individual mobile nodes. The method at least comprises the steps of sending a first query about a routing address of a destination mobile node toward the HRM, based on an activation notification (AN) from an ingress access router (AR) of the plurality of routers, triggered by a source mobile mode, from an LRM receiving the activation notification; relaying the first query via one or more intermediate routing managers (IRM) closer to the HRM until the first query reaches the HRM; and in response to the first query, sending the routing address of the destination mobile node back to the ingress access router through the relay path from the HRM.

Routing manager hierarchy

A method and apparatus for controlling the routing of a data packet sent from a first node towards a second node of a telecommunication network. The first node is a mobile node having an associated home network. An access router intercepts the data packet and determines whether the packet relates to a first mode of communication between the first and second nodes in which data packets generally bypass a home agent associated with the first node's home network. In a second mode of communication, home agent packets generally passed through the home agent. The access router drops the packet if the packet relates to the first mode of communication and if dropping the packet is determined to be in accordance with a pre-determined routing policy.

Method and apparatus for route optimization in a telecommunication network

There are provided a method, a network system, and a router capable of decreasing the chance of VRM or VLM changes so as to reduce signaling, and consequently contributing to better scalability. The method is applied to mobility management used in an IP-based network system, which contains a plurality of access routers (AR), location managers (LM) and routing managers (RM), through which a mobile node (MN) transmits and receives information. According to the method, a visited routing manager (VRM) where the MN is currently located monitors the MN, an AR currently communicating with the MN discriminates whether or not the MN is moving out of its connectivity range, and the VRM discriminates whether or not the MN is moving out of its control range. Then, the method switches mobility management over from the current AR to a new AR in accordance with the discrimination results, and switches mobility management over from the current VRM to a new VRM in accordance with the discrimination result.

The system includes a mobile node () communicating with a correspondent node (), a home agent node () managing the mobile node (), a proxy node () being located closer to the mobile node () than the home agent node () and relaying the packets from the mobile node () to the home agent node (), and a routing manager () managing a route of the packets. The proxy node () detects a trigger of a packet route optimization and notifies the routing manager (). The proxy node () establishes the optimized routing path according to a command received from the routing manager () and routes the packets through the established routing path using a secure method.
