Methods and systems for determining a continuous driving path for a vehicle include: (i) automatically controlling movement of the vehicle along a path while prioritizing the movement so as to minimize vehicle maneuvers, via a processor; (ii) obtaining data including location information as to a location of the vehicle and map information pertaining to the location as the vehicle is travelling autonomously via by the processor; (iii) determining, via the processor, when a decision is needed with respect to further travel of the vehicle, based on the location information and the map information; (iv) requesting, via the processor, driver input as to a driver preference of a driver for movement of the vehicle with regard to the decision; (v) receiving, via one or more sensors, the driver input including the driver preference; and (vi) determining, via the processor, the continuous driving path based on the driver preference.

Method of determining a continuous driving path in the absence of a navigational route for autonomous vehicles

The present application relates to a method and apparatus including a sensor for detecting a first vehicle speed, a camera operative to capture an image, a processor operative to determine a road curvature in response to the image, the processor further operative to determine a first predicted lateral acceleration in response to the road curvature and the first vehicle speed, the processor further operative to determine a second vehicle speed in response to the first predicted lateral acceleration exceeding a threshold value wherein the second vehicle speed results in a second predicted lateral acceleration being less than the threshold value, and to generate a control signal indicative of the second vehicle speed, and a vehicle controller operative to reduce a vehicle velocity to the second vehicle speed in response to the control signal.

A method for controlling a transmission of a vehicle includes: determining, via an electronic controller, a predicted lateral G-force that will act on the vehicle while the vehicle moves along a road curve using image data from a front camera of the vehicle before the vehicle moves along the road curve; communicating, via the electronic controller, the predicted lateral G-force to a transmission controller; and and controlling, via the transmission controller, the transmission of the vehicle based on the predicted lateral G-force.

A method of controlling a ground vehicle includes providing the vehicle with a first sensor configured to detect a vehicle position, a second sensor configured to detect a driven path of the vehicle, and a controller. The method also includes obtaining, via the first sensor, a plurality of vehicle position coordinates during a time interval of a drive cycle, and calculating, via the controller, a first path curvature parameter based on the plurality of vehicle position coordinates. The method additionally includes obtaining, via the second sensor, a second path curvature parameter based on the driven path during the time interval. The method further includes comparing, via the controller, the first path curvature parameter to the second path curvature parameter, and in response to a difference between the second path curvature and the first path curvature exceeding a threshold, automatically operating the controller according to a diagnostic mode.

System and method for sensor diagnostics

A continuously variable transmission (CVT), a transmission control system, and a method vary CVT clamping pressure based on an operation parameter. The control system is configured to command an initial minimum clamping pressure to be applied to the variator assembly to achieve a desired torque capacity. The control system determines one or more vehicle operation parameters and determines a vehicle condition based on the vehicle operation parameter(s). The vehicle condition is selectable from at least a base condition, an elevated condition, and a high condition. The control system selects a compensation strategy based on the vehicle condition. If an elevated compensation strategy has been selected and a predetermined condition has been met, the control system commands an elevated clamping pressure to be applied to the variator assembly. If a high compensation strategy has been selected, the control system commands a high clamping pressure to be applied to the variator assembly.

A system and method for controlling a vehicle having a continuously variable transmission (CVT) comprises a control system having at least one controller, an accelerometer and one or more sensors in communication with the at least one controller to monitor and detect a change in an operational state of the vehicle. The control system determines a vehicle acceleration rate with the accelerometer in response to the change in the operational state of the vehicle. An adjusted vehicle speed is computed based, at least in part, on the vehicle acceleration rate. A variator speed ratio is generated based upon the adjusted vehicle speed and transmitted to the variator assembly of the CVT.

System and method for calculating vehicle speed and controlling a continuously variable transmission

A continuously variable transmission (CVT) for a vehicle includes an input member, an output member and a variator assembly including a first pulley rotatably coupled to the input member and a second pulley rotatably coupled to the output. The first and second pulleys are rotatably coupled by a flexible continuous rotatable device. A control system is provided including an instruction set executable to determine an initial variator speed ratio of the variator assembly and detect an event causing a change in an operational state of the vehicle. The control system determines a compensation strategy to adjust the variator speed ratio in response to the change in the operational state of the vehicle and generates an adjusted variator speed ratio based upon the compensation strategy. The control system transmits the adjusted variator speed ratio to the variator assembly.

System and method for controlling a continuously variable transmission

A system includes a fluid pump, a hydraulic accumulator, and a controller. The controller calculates a reserve volume of the accumulator as a function of a component volume, leakage in the system, and a displacement of the pump, and executes a control action using the calculated reserve volume. The system may be a vehicle having input clutches and a dual clutch transmission (DCT) having gear forks. In such an embodiment, the accumulator and pump supply fluid pressure to the input clutches and gear forks in response to control signals from the controller. The controller executes a method that includes calculating the reserve volume of the accumulator as a function of a component volume, a volume of leakage in the system, and a displacement of the fluid pump. The method also includes executing a shift of the DCT using the calculated reserve volume.

Fluid circuit control with adaptive determination of an accumulator reserve volume

A method for hydraulically charging a fluid circuit in a vehicle includes calculating a fluid volume of the fluid circuit via a controller, and comparing a speed of the vehicle to a calibrated speed threshold. The method also includes calculating a vehicle deceleration rate when the speed of the vehicle is less than the calibrated speed threshold and the fluid volume is less than a calibrated volume threshold. The fluid circuit is then hydraulically charged to a target volume, using a fluid pump, at a hydraulic charging rate that corresponds to the calculated vehicle deceleration rate. A vehicle includes an engine, transmission having a fluid circuit with a fluid pump, and a controller. The controller executes instructions to charge the fluid circuit according to the method noted above. A system includes the transmission and controller.

Scalable hydraulic charging in a vehicle having engine autostop/start functionality

A vehicle includes an engine, an engine control module (ECM), and a dual clutch transmission (DCT) assembly. The DCT assembly has first and second input clutches, first and second gear sets selectively connected to the engine via the respective first and second input clutches, and a transmission control module (TCM). In executing a launch control method, the TCM receives a launch request, receives an actual engine torque, and determines the inertia and acceleration of the engine. The TCM then calculates a clutch torque for the particular input clutch used for vehicle launch as a function of the actual engine torque and the product of the inertia and the acceleration, compares the calculated clutch torque to the commanded clutch torque, modifies a torque-to-position (TTP) table depending on the comparison result, and transmits a clutch position signal to the designated input clutch to command an apply position extracted from the TTP table.

Dual clutch transmission vehicle launch control

A vehicle includes a clutch, pump, pressure control variable force solenoid (PVFS) valve in a branch supplying oil from the pump to the clutch through a flow control VFS (QVFS), and a controller. The controller calculates an area of a variable orifice of the QVFS valve at the start of a clutch shift, records the area as a maximum area, and calculates a maximum branch pressure as a function of the area. The controller limits pressure in the branch during the shift event to the calculated maximum branch pressure. The transmission may be a dual-clutch transmission (DCT) with the clutch being a DCT input clutch. A control system includes a host machine, temperature and pressure sensors, a computer-readable medium with instructions for limiting branch pressure as a function of the maximum area noted above and using sensor values from the sensors. A method of limiting branch pressure is also disclosed.

Limiting branch pressure to a solenoid valve in a fluid circuit

A system includes a pump, accumulator, a sensor which measures line pressure in a fluid circuit, and a controller. The controller plots and calculates respective slopes of first and second sets of measured pressure values from the sensor, calculates a slope ratio, and compares the slope ratio to a threshold. The controller also records the pre-charge pressure as the point of intersection of lines representing the slopes when the ratio exceeds the threshold. A control action is executed when the pre-charge pressure drops below a calibrated minimum threshold. A method includes measuring the pressure values, calculating the respective slopes and the slope ratio, comparing the slope ratio to a ratio threshold, recording the point of intersection of lines representing the slopes as an interpolated pre-charge pressure value when the ratio exceeds the threshold, and executing the control action.
