Managing data in a computing device is disclosed, including generating reverse delta updates during an apply operation of a forward delta update. A method includes operations of applying forward update data to an original data object to generate an updated data object from the original data object and generating, during the applying, reverse update data, the reverse update data configured to reverse effects of the forward update data and restore the original data object from the updated data object.

Driver shimming techniques are described. In one or more implementations, an identification is made as to which interfaces and callbacks are utilized by a shim obtained for a driver of a computing device. The identified interfaces and callbacks are wrapped by the shim of the computing device such that calls to the wrapped interfaces and callbacks are intercepted by the shim.

Device flag techniques are described. In one or more implementations, responsive to detection by a computing device that a device has been communicatively coupled to bus of the computing device, a database is queried by the computing device to determine whether one or more flags have been set for the device. Responsive to a determination made as a result of the querying that the one or more flags have been set for the device identifier, information associated with the one or more flags is communicated to software that is associated with the device to configure the software.

Device flags

An error reporting system within the operating system of a computer that provides error reporting and/or debugging for managed applications. The error reporting service supports a registration programming interface through which applications that use non-native or non-standard error reporting functions can register runtime exception modules. A similar interface may be provided for applications to register debuggers. In response to a failure, such as a crash or an application hang, the error reporting service can poll the registered components to ascertain whether any is adapted for use in conjunction with such a failure. If so, the appropriate registered components can be used to collect failure data and/or debug the failed application. In this way, the error reporting service, and an existing framework that supports aggregation of application error reports, can be customized, including to allow error reporting and debugging of non-native applications.
