Examples of the disclosure relate to an apparatus (), a wearable electronic device and an optical arrangement for optical coherence tomography. The apparatus comprises an optical coherence tomography system () and an optical arrangement (). The optical arrangement comprises at least one means for beam shaping () configured to shape a beam of light from the optical coherence tomography system. The optical arrangement also comprises at least one minor () positioned so that light from the means for beam shaping is incident on the at least one minor. The at least one mirror is configured to move in at least one direction relative to the optical coherence tomography system.

Apparatus for optical coherence tomography

Planar assemblies for coupling a plurality of optical transceivers to the same optical fiber. For example, the optical transceivers may be PON transceivers functioning according to different data rates and/or different modulation formats. Each optical transceiver communicates using one or more different wavelength channels. At least some of the disclosed planar assemblies are scalable to couple various numbers of optical transceivers to the same end face of an optical fiber, e.g., by fixing a corresponding number of passive, slab-like optical filters to a substantially planar surface of the support substrate to which the optical transceivers are also fixed adjacent and along. Some embodiments may employ various bulk lenses fixed to said planar surface to suitably relay light-beam segments between the end face of the fiber and the optical transceivers and/or between the different slab-like optical filters.

Planar assemblies for optical transceivers

Examples of the disclosure relate to an apparatus (), a wearable electronic device and an optical arrangement for optical coherence tomography. The apparatus comprises an optical coherence tomography system () and an optical arrangement (). The optical arrangement comprises at least one means for beam shaping () configured to shape a beam of light from the optical coherence tomography system. The optical arrangement also comprises at least one mirror () positioned so that light from the means for beam shaping is incident on the at least one mirror. The at least one mirror is configured to move in at least one direction relative to the optical coherence tomography system.

An apparatus for manufacturing an array of optical fiber using a handling tool, a clamp element, a cutter and an adhesive reservoir. The handling tool is capable of moving a portion of an optical fiber in a three-dimensional space and hold the portion of the optical fiber together with the clamp element to allow the cutter to produce a cleaved end in the optical fiber. The handling tool is further configured for immersing the cleaved end of the optical fiber in the adhesive reservoir and inserting the cleaved end of the optical fiber with adhesive adhered thereto inside a ferrule of an array of ferrules. A structure comprising the array of ferrules and a method of manufacturing an array of optical fibers are also disclosed.

Hybrid wavelength selective switch

An apparatus is disclosed comprising a planar optical waveguide structure which includes a substrate and two planar optical waveguides thereon. The apparatus further comprises a solid structure having a body and two branches connected to the body. Each of the two branches has a reflective surface area thereon. Each of the two planar optical waveguides is configured to optically couple light from an end thereof to the reflective surface area of a corresponding one of the branches. A terminal comprises a display substrate and an actuator configured to move the display substrate in a cyclic movement over a viewing area. A proximity sensor is configured to generate detection signals. An image controller, configured to receive the detection signal, calculates a cycle time of the cyclic movement of the display substrate and controls at least one of a transmission rate of the display data to the display substrate and the movement of the display substrate caused by the actuator.

A representative embodiment of the invention provides an infrared (IR) imaging system adapted to (i) convert an IR image of an object into mechanical displacements of a plurality of movable plates, (ii) use the mechanical displacements to impart a corresponding spatial phase modulation pattern onto a beam of visible light, and (iii) apply spatial filtering to convert the spatial phase modulation pattern into a visible image of the object.

Infrared imaging apparatus

A highly reliable fuse for explosives and armaments is achieved by employing a micro mechanical device that operates to disrupt a relatively low impedance bypass circuit coupled in parallel with a relatively high impedance trigger mechanism. The removal of the electrical bypassing is performed as a result of the movement of the micro mechanical device to enable detonation under prescribed conditions. The electrical bypassing is removed by having at least one low impedance electrical bridge that is part of the bypass circuit break when the micro mechanical device is subjected to prescribed trigger activation forces, which are typically large forces, such as are generated during launch or impact. The micro mechanical device may be a micro-electrical mechanical system (MEMS) device and the bridge is at least one spring that is part of the MEMS device and also part of the bypass circuit.

Armament fuse arrangement

A mechanical switch includes a pair of conducting contacts, metal located on and between the conducting contacts, a heater, and an electro-mechanical actuator. The heater is operable to apply heat that melts the metal. The electro-mechanical actuator is capable of moving one or both of the conducting contacts in a manner that causes the metal to either start physically bridging the conducting contacts or to stop physically bridging the conducting contacts.

A representative embodiment of the invention provides an infrared (IR) detector having a movable plate supported at an offset distance from a substrate by a suspension arm. In response to a temperature difference between the plate and the substrate generated by the incident IR radiation, the suspension arm deforms and changes the offset distance for the plate. In one embodiment, the suspension arm has three rod-shaped bimorph transducers that lie within a plane that is parallel to the substrate. The transducers are also parallel to one another, with the transducer that is attached to an anchor of the suspension arm being located between the two transducers that are attached to the plate.
