An example method of making a filter for a respirator is provided. An example filter includes a pleated filter element and a preformed filter mounting element for mounting the filter to a face piece or respirator. The method forms a filter having an air impermeable seal extending around a periphery of the filter, the air impermeable seal including and bonded by melted plastic material of the pleated filter element and melted plastic material of the preformed filter mounting element.

An example filter can include a pleated filter element and a preformed filter mounting element for mounting of the filter to a face piece or respirator. The filter can further include an air impermeable seal extending around a periphery of the filter, the air impermeable seal including and bonded by melted plastic material of the pleated filter element and melted plastic material of the preformed filter mounting element.

A pleated molded filtering face piece respirator to be worn upon the face of a wearer and for providing filtering including at least one layer of moldable flexible plastic material formed from openwork flexible plastic material for providing a plurality of perforations for allowing for the free passage of air through the openwork plastic. A layer of moldable filter material for filtering impurities in the air, the one layer of flexible plastic material formed from openwork flexible plastic material and the layer of filter material for filtering impurities in the air lying one on top of the other to form a moldable multilayer of flexible plastic material and filter material. The moldable multilayer of flexible plastic material and filter material are pleated into pleated material and molded to form the pleated filtering face piece respirator to a desired configuration where the one layer of openwork flexible plastic material forms a support layer to carry the layer of filter material.

Pleated filtering face piece respirator

An apparatus and a method of making a corded earplug, including a flexible cord material having a particular cross-section. An earplug having a nose portion for insertion into the ear and a handle portion extending from the nose portion and lying outside of the ear when the nose portion is inserted into the ear. The handle portion including at least two openings physically displaced from each other. At least one of the openings extends within the handle portion and with at least one of the openings having a cross-section different than the cross-section of the cord material. An end portion of the flexible cord material is inserted into the at least one opening extending within the handle portion. The end portion of the flexible cord material is then inserted into the other opening in the handle portion so that the end portion of the flexible cord material is frictionally engaged along its length to lock the flexible cord material to the rear portion of the earplug because of the difference in cross-section between the cord and the at least one opening having a cross-section different than the cross-section of the cord material.

Corded earplug

A clamp for adjustably joining the ends of a strap having ends. The clamp has top and bottom members, and at least one of the top and bottom members has a groove extending from one side to the other side of the clamp. The groove receives the ends of the strap so first portions of the ends of the strap are within the groove and at least one other second portion of the strap extends outward from the sides of the clamp. Complementary aligning portions are located on the top and bottom members to align the top and bottom members to capture the first portions of the ends of the strap by friction within the groove formed within the clamp. The length of the strap is adjusted by the second portion of the strap that extend outward from the sides of the clamp.

A multi-piece dual mode headphone, including: a molded elongated member, a rear molded insert member and an intermediate member all together forming a headphone with a channel extending through the interior of the headphone. A small speaker for transmitting sound energy is positioned in the headphone to direct the sound energy through the channel to the eardrum. The molded rear insert member includes a cap member and with positioning of the cap member providing for the headphone being in a first mode of operation where the channel extending through the interior of the headphone is open and a second mode of operation where the channel extending through the interior of the headphone is closed.

Dual mode in-ear headphone

An apparatus and a method of making a corded earplug, including a flexible cord material and a pair of earplugs. Each earplug has a nose portion for insertion into the ear and a rear portion extending from the nose portion and lying outside of the ear when the nose portion is inserted into the ear. Each rear portion has a pair of openings physically displaced from each other and/or angularly displaced from each other. At least one of the openings extends through the rear portion. A short portion of the flexible cord material is inserted through the at least one opening extending through the rear portion. The short portion of the flexible cord material is then inserted into the other opening to have the short portion of the flexible cord material physically displaced and/or angularly displaced along its length to lock the flexible cord material to the rear portion of the earplug.

Pleated respirator mask

A hearing protective earplug for insertion into the human ear canal of a user where the human ear canal has sidewalls and a typical curved portion. A soft resilient body has a main body element with a front end for insertion in the human ear canal. An elongated stem has two ends with one end attached to the main body element. The stem extends outward from the main body element and away from the front end. The other end of the stem forms a handle portion of the stem. The stem is sufficiently stiff as to allow manipulation of the main body element into the ear canal of the user. The stem member has a crooked or wavy configuration within the ear canal as it extends outward from the main body to the handle portion of the stem. As the front end of the main body element is inserted into the ear canal, the stem member is rotated during insertion with the handle portion to fit around the typical curved portion in the human ear canal. This seats the main body to acoustically block the ear canal while at the same time spaces the stem member within the typical curved portion of the ear canal to minimize contact with the sidewalls of the ear canal.

Dual mode attenuating earplug

A two piece dual mode earplug including an integrally molded elongated member having a nose end and an open rear end and a channel extending through. An integrally molded insert member is formed with a base portion and a rod portion and with the rod portion seated within the open rear end of the elongated member and includes an attenuation filter integrally molded as part of the rod portion and includes first and second openings located on each side of a chamber and with the size and length of the openings together with the chamber providing attenuation of impulse noise. The insert member also includes the base portion integrally molded to have a third opening larger than the first and second openings in the rod portion and with the first, second and third openings together forming a passageway through the insert member to the channel extending through the elongated member.
