A porous refractory in the KO—SiO—BOsystem is formed by chemical direct foaming by heating to over 600° C., resulting in adherent black or white foam. The foam can function as highly porous thermal insulation, a high or low thermal emissivity surface, as a sealant for deteriorated refractory surfaces, as a filler for pockmarks/holes/gaps or as a bonding agent for parts with large gaps between them.

Refractory foam

A porous refractory in the KO&#x2014;SiO&#x2014;BOsystem is formed by chemical direct foaming by heating to over 600&#xb0; C., resulting in adherent black or white foam. The foam can function as highly porous thermal insulation, a high or low thermal emissivity surface, as a sealant for deteriorated refractory surfaces, as a filler for pockmarks/holes/gaps or as a bonding agent for parts with large gaps between them.

A non-aqueous solution-suspension of RO&#x2014;SiO&#x2014;BOcomprises in the dry state a composition of 2 to 30 weight percent RO, wherein RO is an alkali metal oxide; between 10 to 74 weight percent SiO; and between 23 to 79 weight percent BO. Non-aqueous solution-suspensions are used to blend to give a liquid paint which, on drying, contains the composition within the range given above in the RO&#x2014;SiO&#x2014;BOsystem. Non-aqueous bulk liquid and aerosol based spray paints are provided, with or without Boron Nitride additions, to allow the formation of tough, flexible coatings onto ferrous metals after bake-on.

Solvent-based coating refractory coatings for ferrous metals

A miscible solvent system and method for making same having a composition between about 10 to about 90 weight percent PCBTF and between about 10 to about 90 weight percent fluorinated solvent. The miscible solvent system may be combined with boron nitride powder to create a bulk paint system. Further the miscible solvent system may be combined with a propellant to create an aerosol system. The miscible solvent system, bulk paint system, and aerosol system may be nonflammable or flammable and contain VOCs or be VOC free.

Miscible solvent system and method for making same

A solvent composition and method for making same is disclosed having a composition between 26 to 90 weight percent propionate, butyrate, or combination thereof and between 10 to 74 weight percent fluorinated solvent blend, wherein the fluorinated solvent blend includes t-DCE. A polymer solvent system is also disclosed incorporating the solvent composition and dissolved polymers, such as SEBS polymers. The solvent composition and polymer solvent system is minimally combustible or preferably nonflammable.

Nonflammable solvent compositions for dissolving polymers and resulting solvent systems

A solvent composition and system is disclosed having a composition including n-propyl bromide and a propionate containing liquid and/or a butyrate containing liquid. The solvent system may include approximately 35 to 92.5 weight percent propionate containing liquid and approximately 7.5 to 65 weight percent n-propyl bromide. Alternatively, the solvent system may include approximately 40 to 85 weight percent butyrate containing liquid and 15 to 60 weight percent, n-propyl bromide. The solvent system may incorporate a polymer, such as a synthetic rubber polymer. Further the solvent system preferably has high solvency while maintaining desirable evaporation rates and is preferably nonflammable, combustible, or minimally a class IC flammable liquid.

N-propyl bromide solvent systems

A solvent composition and system is disclosed having a composition including n-propyl bromide and a propionate containing liquid and/or a butyrate containing liquid. The solvent system may include approximately 35 to 92.5 weight percent propionate containing liquid and approximately 7.5 to 65 weight percent n-propyl bromide. Alternatively, the solvent system may include approximately 40 to 85 weight percent butyrate containing liquid and 15 to 60 weight percent n-propyl bromide. The solvent system may incorporate a polymer, such as a synthetic rubber polymer. A carbon material is formed by heat-treating a carbonaceous material in a reaction mix of boron oxide or its precursors and ammonia-generating phases such as melamine or its like in a nitrogen atmosphere to temperatures of 1600 to 2000&#xb0; C. The surface of the carbonaceous material is transformed into a carbon material that is resistant to oxidation to temperatures of 900&#xb0; C., enabling machined components to be utilized for weeks at that temperature. The carbon material also is stable in inert or vacuum environments to temperatures in the range of 1500 to 2000&#xb0; C., enabling its use as aluminum evaporative boats and the like.
